Jump in now or wait for WitE2

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Jump in now or wait for WitE2

Post by Blue Army »

Hello

I have been lurking on War in the East for years and I am tempted ..., but does it make sense to jump in the deep end now or should I wait for WitE2? Does anybody have an idea when the new version is coming and does anybody have know if it will be a completely new game, so I will have to start all over again, or will WitE1 make WitE2 easier. Any thoughts are most welcome[:)]

Thanks
Michael

Its a completely new game but it shares an ancestry with WiTE1/W. One thing we know is there will have to be a lot of unlearning of tricks developed in the context of WiTE1 due to some aspects being very different.

Both the air war and the logistics systems now have very little in common with WiTE1.

Having said that, WiTE1 remains an excellent game, experience with it will help - stuff such as the overall scale, the basics of movement and combat and so on.

The manual for WiTE2 has a substantive section on the differences to WiTE1 to (hopefully) help players make the shift with a minimum of frustration

If WiTe is on sale, or discounted then having both, (when 2 comes out) is no bad thing, but i would not go full price for both this year.

+1
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

I'd suggest buying WitE (and WitW if you don't have it; the air operations part is so much different from WitE, and so is supply/logistics part) right away, or during the next sale if you prefer to save $$… Including all expansions. Superb games both. Im sure that what you will learn from WitE and WitW wont be wasted once WitE2 is out...

Thanks - and AH’s 3R, my first strategy game-experience. Nothing have beaten that yet, World in Flames comes close and is a better game, but still not the same as the first battle and sleeplees nights[:)]

Third Reich has been my first wargame love and I've played it for many sleepless nights too. But for me, WitE beats it hands down. That said, 3R on computer with a game engine as powerful as WitE would be incredible!
