Vietnam War books

Post by gregb41352 »

Just finished Max Hastings' epic history of the war.
I'm wondering if there are other good histories of
the war. Or the best Vietnam books in general.

Depends on how much reading you'd like to do, or your areas of interest. There are many books of varying themes.

Anything in particular?

I've read just about all of the general histories of the war.
"Matterhorn" was a fantastic fictional account. Currently
reading Frank Snep's "Decent Interval" which is fantastic.

I suppose I'd be interested in a general history I haven't
come across and something akin to "Matterhorn"

BTW Bernard Fall's books on the French experience are must reads.

Street without Joy, aye. I also got tons of information about the French in Indochina on my blog. Feedback appreciated!

I read The 13th Valley when I was in High School in the early 80s and always loved it as a fictional Vietnam novel

The Cat From Hue, by John Laurence is a fascinating look at a crucial phase of the war from the perspective of a CBS journalist. The world was a very different place back then (as those of us here who were watching TV in those years can tell ya).
