Steam release date or demo?

Post by VonWulfen »

Hi guys.
I have been following the game for a while now.
I am waiting for the steam release so I can try before committing to buy (via 2-hour returns).
Any idea if there will be a demo?
Is there a steam release date yet?

Well, manual contain 200+ pages with data about how game mechanics are working (plus ~100 pages are basic tutorial about UI). I highly doubt you could get correct impression via mere 1.5 hours (hell, my first 3 hours were spend in planet generator [:D]). And first hours of gameplay are quite confusing. Plus game turns are still quite slow (especially on exciting planets filled with enemies)...

I highly suggest you to watch some YouTube videos first. This game is definitely not for casual player and overall quite niche one.

If you like 4x games it is great but ya NOT for everyone. LOTS to do in a turn lots to pay attention to.

I concur with 'demiare'; if the plethora of videos (many by DasTactic), extremely positive feedback by the community/users, a very engaged & respected developer, & the manual does not give you enough info per whether you would like this game or not, well.
I suspect spending 2 hours trying to learn what it is a very well made game with a slightly deep learning curve will not convince you.

Many thanks for the replies all.
I play many 4x and warfare sims, most from slither and matrix. I am not worried about complexity and prefer deep games. I know that two hours is not near enough to learn this game but I have £35 sitting in my steam wallet, hence the reason I ask about steam release date :)
Edit: Went ahead and purchased the game.
Read and seen a lot of positive information so had to give it a shot :)
The £35 steam wallet will keep until 21 Aug, when "Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865) comes out on steam.

Yeah I bought it straight after only watching DasTactics-videos. Never regretted a minute and dunno another game I have played so much in such in short time. Maybe Civilizations when I was younger [:D].. Great game, masterpiece even IMO and will only get better during time and updates.

I've owned it since day 1 on Matrix, but I'm waiting for the Steam release, mostly so I can brag to all of my Steam friends who don't have this game or even know what it is, how awesome this game is. [:D]

I'm definitely siding with demiare's reply.

If you're only waiting for a 2-hour return policy, then (IMO) I think you should stay away from this game.

I will add, I use the "dinner out" value basis for game purchases. "How does this game's price compare to a typical dinner out?"... and how would my entertainment be matched by the same value?
