Unit variation

Post by boomboomf22 »

Dunno if this is where to put this, but something I would like to see is for the AI to have some variation in how it builds its units.

ATM when I enounter an AI light tank it is gonna be a 60mm Howitzer, 25mm armor, and a medium-heavy engine. And all the AT guns are 105mm and all arty I run into is either 150mm or 300mm (some variation, but not much).

I wish the AI would build other stuff sometimes

You're wrong here. 105 mm AFAIK is a base limitation for AT-guns if you're lacking more advanced techs (like Automatic Rifles - don't ask why it's affecting guns). In my game AI happily run with 180 AT-guns now.

150mm arty is early era as artillery caliber is also limited by tech. In case of tanks - yean, AI is using a templates. Seems it's trying to avoid massive penalties to movement (sadly agility&speed do not give you advantage in combat - it's horribly wrong, but this is how combat work now).

My point is that at that early stage I am seeing nothing smaller than those sizes. I know it is optimal to use those weapon sizes, which is why the AI is using them, but why have smaller weapons in the game if they are never gonna be used

Balancing is not even ongoing yet :) We have much more severe issues in balance then excess gun sizes :)
