AI seems to focus the player to the point of ignoring greater threats

Post by Krytor »

I'm attacking a Minor Regime. So naturally it puts it's units on my boarder. But on the other side of it a Major is also attacking it. Yet it uses 0 units to defend that boarder. What then happens is the Major takes the city while the player does all the fighting.

This happens to me constantly and I see it in Let's Plays as well. It's super frustrating and makes no sense. The AI should defend itself from all attackers.

Somewhat related, early game all Minor Regimes quickly declare on the player (That's fine) but ignore each other (That's dumb). For all the quality RP this game offers, having the AI solely focus the player really takes away from the immersion. My request is simply that the AI reacts to threats based on the known level of danger.

I uploaded a photo to show this behavior but this form requires me to make 10 posts then wait two weeks before I can upload my first image. Which is a terrible way to try to moderate a form.

It gets truly absurd when it's minor regimes which are your protectorate/client, or are currently at war with another major. The player might be a wildcard, but a wildcard isn't more hostile than a belligerent. The former case has also led to some absurd situations, where my protectorate had literally all of its units hugging its border with me, then was invaded by another major it bordered on the opposite side of their zone. So then I annexed them as protector and had to scramble their militia across a dozen hexes so as to not lose my new city. It was truly absurd.

Yeah, there is definitely a big issue with minor regimes putting all their units on the border of a major regime and leaving their city and rest of their borders empty. I've walked right in and taken undefended minor regime cities where I can see all their units sitting on some border.

This would be a very good suggestions thread. I agree with all mentioned above.

Maybe the minors should always have their algorithm like something like 'always station 70% of forces at X/Y when at peace' where X/Y is the capital.

And as an addition, 'if peace changed from untrue to true, move 80% of forces away from border where peace is true', as keeping a masking force is still viable.
The logistics hell this game is IS the fun part! - Maerchen, 2020

The good thing is, we have all the information in the reports. The bad thing is, we have all the information. Maerchen, 2020

Beta 1.06.15 made a minor fix on the citiy garission:
-Have been making fixes to the AI garrison algorithms, especially for Minors, which were still leaving empty their City in some cases.´

No idea if that would covder the multiple front issue as well.

I did notice that their cities were never totally empty anymore. But the small force in the city won't stop the Major from rolling up and taking it in one turn while all of the minor's armies are on my doorstep.
