Tech Advancement vs Actual Combat Applied

Post by scout1 »

Wondering how the game applies various tech advancements relative to combat ......

For example, an infantry can be Assault or Anti Tank and the unit can be advanced independently .... Si Say fir example the unit is 1944 for assault and 1940 for anti-tank ...... and is attacked by german amour .... Which criteria is used for this defensive unit ?????

Question is much broader ... includes a boatload of air unit questions as well ....

Either I don't understand your question or else you don't understand how tech advancements work. All units have a particular tech advancement type associated with them such as "Assault" of "Anti-tank" for infantry, mountain, paras and marines or "Breakthrough" or "Heavy Armor" for armour and mechanized. All units of a particular type have the same attributes at the 39 tech level, but only benefit from tech advancements related to their advancement type. So using infantry as an example, there is no difference between a "39 assault" infantry unit and a "39 anti=tank" infantry unit. But if you look at the advancement tables you will see that a "45 Assault" infantry will have gained more Firearms and a "45 Anti-tank" infantry will have more Guns and Defence.

So when you say that "the unit is 1944 for assault and 1940 for anti-tank" that is not possible. A particular infantry unit can only be either an "Assault" Infantry or an "Anti-tank" Infantry, it can't be both (though it can at a cost switch from one to the other). It may be that a particular nation has "44 Assault" technology and "40 Anti-tank" technology, but that just means that any "Assault" infantry units it has can be upgraded to a maximum of Assault 44 tech, while any "Anti-tank" infantry it has can only upgrade to Anti-tank 40 tech.

It is for this reason that it is generally a good idea to specialize in only a few techs.
