How to get this running in Win10

Post by FrattonFreak »

Hi,

Apologies if this has been raised before. I've been looking for the best D-Day type war game. I recently purchased GG WITW from Steam but I cannot get this to run in Win10

I have amended the exe file to run in Compatibility mode Win XP SP3 but I gat a black window but I can hear music running.
Im assuming there are plenty of people running this in Win10 so would be very grateful if anyone can help me

Tank,

Try this: go into the WitW\DAT directory and change the name of the VIDEO folder to VIDEO.XXX and do the same with the SOUND folder. The game should go straight to the game start-up screen. Assuming you don't care about watching the movies!

Please let me know if that works.

Beyond that it may be a DirectX reinstall issue, but let's see if we can get you into the game if we can.

Hi Cary

Thanks for your reply

Now it bypasses the music and video then loads a green screen with a window inside that appears to be game options and settings

If I select Load Scenario its shows a screen but the scenario names look scrambled, well over writing each other as does tyhe text in the next window if I select a scenario. The scenario isnt readable. Even ignoring this there doesnt appear to be a way of launching.

So in summary Ive progressed further but need some more help please

Not my area of expertise. I'm not an official support person, so I hope someone else can chime in here.

Do you have a large monitor and/or use increased font sizes? That will affect the fonts inside the game to.
Please look into this info given for WitE2, it may work on WitW too:

WitE dev team - (aircraft data)
WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)
WitE2 dev team (aircraft data)

Deniss - Thanks so much. Yes I have a widescreen monitor. This has sorted it along with Cary's advice for the start

Tank - I'm glad to hear that, enjoy the game! It has a lot of depth. I've been playing it nonstop since 2013 when I was a playtester on it.
