Executable files in downloaded scenarios

Post by ACHiggins »

Having downloaded a number of scenarios, I find several of them include executable files (List follows):

Opart 4.exe (No scenario: TOAW directory)
Opart 4 - Slow.exe (No scenario: TOAW directory)
Opart FB.exe (Scenario: Lodz 1914)
Waterloo.exe (Scenario: Battle of Waterloo)
19th.exe (Scenario: The Washing of the Spears)
Germany1813.exe (Scenario: Germany1813)
OPart 300_WotR v04.exe (Scenario: WotR PBMv04f)

Questions as follows:

A. I understand "opart" sets parameters for fonts, but what function(s) do files without "opart" in the name perform?
B. There are three subdirectories in the TOAW directory - Graphics, Custom Graphics, and Graphics Override; into which of the three is one supposed to load these executable files?

I would guess that those files are not needed if TOAW is currently running with no problems. If one of those scenarios doesn't work then I would suggest putting that particular exe in the Graphics Override folder. If it still doesn't work then try putting its' exe in the Documents > My Games > The Operational Art of War IV folder.

The 'OPART' files are the standard exe's for different versions and they are probably in the main folder already.

EDIT: Or, as Bob explains below, you may need ACOW [TOAW's A Century of Warfare] to run them.

Opart 4.exe (No scenario: TOAW directory)
Opart 4 - Slow.exe (No scenario: TOAW directory)

Not sure what you mean by those two, if they aren't associated with any scenario.
Opart FB.exe (Scenario: Lodz 1914)
Waterloo.exe (Scenario: Battle of Waterloo)
19th.exe (Scenario: The Washing of the Spears)
Germany1813.exe (Scenario: Germany1813)
OPart 300_WotR v04.exe (Scenario: WotR PBMv04f)

These are old ACOW scenarios. The executables are hacked versions of ACOW. That was a way that designers could used edited equipment lists back in that era. They run by themselves and what they run will be a version of ACOW - which you will need a copy of to use them.

B. There are three subdirectories in the TOAW directory - Graphics, Custom Graphics, and Graphics Override; into which of the three is one supposed to load these executable files?

Again, these cannot be run with TOAW IV (or III, either). You need a copy of ACOW. Then (I believe) you would run the exe provided in place of the ACOW executable.
