New feature request: reconnaissance overlay

WarPlan Pacific is an operational level wargame which covers all the nations at war in the Pacific theatre from December 1941 to 1945 on a massive game scale.

New feature request: reconnaissance overlay

Post by ncc1701e »

This game is about base, placement, reconnaissance level and naval interception. As such, it is critical to help the player to assess his reconnaissance level and see how this is key to win naval engagements.

Reconnaissance level is much more critical in Warplan Pacific than in Warplan Europe due to all the naval engagements.

Today, each hex has a reconnaissance level that you need to review one by one. And this review process can be quite long.

What I think would be a great addition is to press one single key to immediately add an overlay displaying reconnaissance levels on the map.

We can imagine a color code like the following:
. Reconnaissance Very High -> red
. Reconnaissance High -> red
. Reconnaissance Medium -> orange
. Reconnaissance Low -> yellow
. Reconnaissance Very Low -> nothing to add, just the ocean.

But, of course, the color code should be compatible with color blind players.

Alvaro, I know there are lot of hexes to process. But see, I am here to improve your programming skills. :lol:

Here is an example of what I am thinking of:

Thanks for your consideration.

And since this is most useful for the naval aspect of the game, we may imagine adding this overlay only on the sea hexes. This way, all the land hexes in India, China, ... won't have to be calculated.

We may gain some CPU time this way.

I will look into it but I might not be able to do this with the current code.

Thanks a lot Alvaro. If you can't with the current code, keep the idea for Warplan 2 please. 8-)
