Poll: WEGO Way Ahead

Post by bcgames »

This poll provides you an opportunity to guide the way ahead for the WEGO game system. The topics are not selected randomly; they are topics I have always been interested in and have the historical resources to support their rapid development. Select all options that YOU would commit your hard-earned cash to play.

I was not surprised with Market Garden pulling way ahead (now at 26%), bit an surprised at Korean War 1950-53 pulling the second spot.

What about a campaign in the Pacific such as Guadalcanal involving land and naval battles?

I'm curious what level a Waterloo or Gettysburg campaign would be. Corps or divisional would be more playable then regimental.

If the US Army wants to cough up the bucks to do this in support of their course-ware on the topic for the Command and General Staff College--then I'm all in. Until then, it ranks greater than or equal to the number eleven in the projects I'm interested in pursuing.

Division level for infantry and heavy cavalry (with brigade level breakdowns); brigade level for light cavalry (with regimental breakdowns)...plus variable unit sizes for unique organizations, miscellaneous garrison, depot units, etc.

Of the top four, I’m pleasantly surprised at the support for the War in Korea. I know the source of my own interest in the topic…curious to know what others would like to see presented in a game on this subject.

I would love to see the entire conflict covered from 1949-1953 (I think the Chinese were doing some Islanding fighting in 1949), with the North and South Koreans, US Army and USMC, the British, and other NATO elements.

The Korean War just has not been war gamed enough in my opinion.

Market-Garden took an early lead and hasn't looked back. D-Day Normandy has moved into the second position...

...and they're coming around the bend neck-and-neck for third place...Campaign of 1813, URAN, and The Korean War...

...and in last place--Beetle Bomb!

Perhaps the WEGO system will take its place when
"Road to Moscow" is accomplished.(Or something like that)
That that was a failure is still an enormous disappointment.

Is Operation Uranus really still a viable option given the world's current situation? This was our logical follow-on to Stalingrad but...history has not been kind to our "next game choice" from four years ago. I'm surprised URAN is this popular right now. We'll see...

BUT--Am glad to see the current poll toppers! 1813 is my favorite Napoleonic campaign...tons of books and data on the topic. I think this game would be the best departure from the current "WEGO WW2 Standards".

War in Korea...might be the fourth largest portion of my historical library (#1 American Civil War, #2 Plains Indian Wars, #3 WW2, #5 Napoleonic Wars, and #6 Wars in Indochine).

Interesting poll results to be sure. Looking forward to see how it all plays out in the months ahead.

Road to Moscow. From about 2003.
4 maps here.
Starting points 22-6 and 30-9.
Drawingboard for offensive.
WeGo system.
Was too complicated to reach a playable system. (Sadly enough)

Ah yes, I remember The Road To Moscow, that magical mythical game :)
Pity it never saw the light but perhaps far too ambitious.

Great feedback. Tell your friends and associates about this poll. Which are the power games on the list?

Napoleonic's vote growth has been great.
I don't know what ideas you have about WEGO Napoleonic, but I personally look forward to seeing how an army with inaccuracies in the transmission of orders would work with the WEGO system.

Can do now with the Command & Control Tab in the game editor:

The Korean War continues to be strong in the poll. It is a great topic where the initiative see-saws between one side and the other over time.

I believe the Korean war would be a great topic. Especially if you include a campaign. The war featured a unique ebb and flow, only comparable to a few other modern conflicts (e.g. Eastern Front in WW2) in terms of plot twists and dynamics.
