Question re: captured space ports & defensive bases - How to salvage resources?

Post by spinocus »

I captured a few pirate space ports (in the hopes of getting their tech after retiring/scuttling) and received notifications of the resources stored in their cargo holds. I don't need the ports (or the expense of maintaining them) but want the resources.

Will I automatically receive the resources if I retire/scuttle these space ports? If so where do they go? If not then how does one retrieve the resources out of a space port, base or mining station you do not want?

I don't think you can recover all the resources, but you could make a barebones small design and retrofit into that. You'll at least get all the resources from the larger hulls and extra components, but you'll still have to set MAINTAIN levels on manual to 0 for everything. And wait for freighters to pick them up. Generally not worth doing. Instead, build what you can from it, then scrap it.

No way to properly retire the stations or even getting all the resources back when you scrap it.

Could you force attack if to the collect and study the components?

Scrapping will produce the normal amount of Debris, AFAIK.
So no idea why you want to force-attack your own station.

Based on your replies it appears the only course of action would be to set the captured station (or case-specific retrofitted 'minimal' station) to manual with zero maintenance levels and let private sector vessels remove those resources at will and per the demand of my empire's economy. That does indeed sound like a lot of effort and time for minimal (and possibly negative) returns, especially since most of the resources in their cargo holds were not high priority.

I opted to scrap the stations for their primary component resources, which is better than nothing!

Anyway, thank you all for responding!
