Why wont my cash balance increase?

Post by tankacealpha »

This has been going on for several years of in game time. I have a positive cash flow of around 7-10K often bolstered by bonus income, yet my balance bounces around all over the place up and down and I have no clue why and wont get above 20K before dropping, that is if it even reaches 20K before bouncing back down. Nothing is upgrading, I am buying a small amount of fuel but not enough to cause this problem. I have no clue what is going on.

Is there a legitimate reason or is this a bug?

1) Check your automation settings, the AI might be building military ships, recruiting troops, or building planetary facilities at colonies for you. And it will do so as soon as enough cash is available

2) Have you ordered any ship construction through Fleet templates? That works the same way as 1)

3) Have you upgraded any state station designs lately? Stations lag a while to upgrade as they wait for enough resources to be brought to them.

4) Do you have serious resource deficits that you are making up by buying resources from your neighbours? That might also include Luxury or Rare resources.

Thanks for this, its absolutely is not 1 to 3, my empire is to small and needs to much micro for me to not know exactly what is happening in this regard.

It could very well be 4 though, I am playing on Xtreme maximum empires so everything is very tight and constrained.

Cashflow does not include all expenses and income. It is only an estimation of some of the factors.

Look at last year's total expenses, and add bonus income with tax income. That is your total delta cash from last year. You can estimate your current delta cash based on last year's results.

Also, remember that it is a yearly balance. The expenses and income could be lopsided in the year's progress. Imagine you get the income from your capital in January, then immediately spend it. The rest of the year can be a slow downside in your cash reserves, with the additional expense as soon as you got some reserves.

I see players doing this in their gameplay regularly, and this will naturally result in what you're experiencing.
