Number of ships indicated by the fleet size box

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Number of ships indicated by the fleet size box

Post by Alan McDonald »

I was wondering if there was a number value to each of the fleet size choices on the starting screen.
They are:

Small
Medium
Large
Larger
Very Large
Super Large

I tried looking through the manual, but did not see an answer.

Thanks

The game fleet sizes are stored as a number in the save file (plain text so it's easy enough to find - if memory serves small is 3 and super large is 8 but don't quote me)
In terms of how many ships a fleet size corresponds to, there's no simple correlation. How many ships a fleet has is heavily dependent on the year in game, past events (wars, treaties, etc) and how large the player likes to build their ships (bigger more expensive ships -> fewer hulls).

It sets the size of your budget rather than a quantity of ships. It does somewhat depend on Nation and Historical Budget choices, but:

Super Large you can stretch to a couple of hundred escorts (DDs and KEs) with plenty of Cruisers and heavier ships to fight your battles.

On Small, you'll be struggling to support 50 escorts.
