How do I mod in buildable assets?

I looked everywhere, checked guides, looked through the S&S editor and manual, nothing, there does not seem to be a supported way to mod in buildable assets, am I missing something here?

A year late, but Catasteroid's mod had new buildable assets in it. Can't explain how he did it though...
