Confederate unit keeps auto-dying at Mesilla

Post by sokulsky »

If Confederate player waits for "CSA invasion of New Mexico begins!" event, allowing CSA cavalry to appear at Cofederate Arizona, without sending any troops there in initial deployment, CSA automatically loses one of the regiments auto-deployed in New Mexico - will it be fixed or is it an intended auto-loss?

Usually, forces that cannoy reach their deployment areas, are just redeployed elsewhere.

Are you moving the Confederate cavalry to within four hexes of Fort Thorn, but at the same time not capturing Mesilla?

If that's what's happening then I can see the potential issue here.

Yes, for example:
1) You can go for Cooke's Spring (which is within 4 hexes of Fort Thorn and 3 hexes of Mesilla) alas this move is rare as Mesilla is more important;
OR
2) Mesilla is already garnisoned by Union STR 5 cav that is initially deployed in Missouri, and you stay near it (whether simply blocked OR ambushed) as CSA with initial CSA cavalry division (4 hexes within Fort Thorn as well) (if you are ambushed, you almost certainly lose El Paso if CSA had no other unit there at this point, as Union cavalry can just run around CSA cav and capture El Paso in single move, in which case Sibley's troops just deploy east from San Antonio in Texas);

However, I am almost certai that it happened in some of my games when I was able to take Mesilla as well (but failed to take Fort Thorn as it was already garnisoned).
