Mandatory Bombing of U-Boat Pens

If you've played the Allies in one of the BTR campaigns you've no doubt experienced this wrinkle in your grand scheme of successfully bombing the Reich to ashes and dust. The manual describes the event but offers little insight on the best way to manage this absurd request from the Brass... and still beat the sudden death loss. Bombing the U-Boat factory (UFAC) sites deep inside Germany to mitigate this mandatory targeting is difficult if not impossible until the long range escorts arrive. But you can bomb the pens (UPEN) as an alternative strategy. Here is a brief insight from "under the hood":

The Allies need to bomb the UPEN sites to a "total" output level below 9 to satisfy the Brass and remove mandatory targeting. You can monitor this value through your "List Targets" menu but unless you have current recon on all the UPEN sites you won't really know if the "total" value in your target list is the actual output level (known only to the Axis Player).

Getting this output level below 9 will not be easy. However, if the actual value is >8, you can still reduce the probability of occurrence of the mandatory targeting requirement by bombing the UPEN. Since many of these UPEN are located within range of your Air Forces and away from the bulk of the Luftwaffe, these should be attractive targets in 1943. Try using your Tiffy's and Mossie's on medium level attacks on these targets. Yes it will likely be very bloody but you should see some good results so you wont have to return for several weeks.
