And it starts

Let's see if Vladimir would approve this new patch. 13 infantry corps converted to 13 small armies the very first turn.

And 7 corps / small armies destroyed already. 11 new corps going to small armies.

In front of me, I have an ALL IN Axis force:
. 5 German panzer corps
. 11 German mechanized corps
. 3 Italian mechanized corps

Am I supposed to resist?

It looks like they got surrounded...quite a few did...
That is never good as you are well aware...

Absolutely, 20% experienced rifle corps are easy to push and then encirclements are possible.

And yes, I am retreating the frontline one hex only. For me, Barbarossa was about fighting, local counter attack, ...

New turn received. Small mistake on my side I think, I lost the Belarus HQ in the center with Vatutin inside. I should have retreated a little more. But only two rifle armies destroyed this turn. 6 corps converted to small armies.

Three are 21 rifle corps remaining right now in the Red army. I have 40 small armies and 9 full armies.

In the South, the panzer corps look tired. The main reason I like to fight not to retreat. The real danger is in the center. I will try to reform a line with the 4 full armies plus 2 rifle corps in my deploiement queue this turn.

Miracle near Kiev? One mechanized corps back to the deploiement queue...
Ready for the next turn. I wonder. I really wonder if I can do it now.

Exciting, keep us updated how it goes.
In my experience mech units lose there strength pretty quickly so I personally prefer 5 arm corps to 6 mech corps.
Retreating seems to work pretty well but one needs to fight a little bit. Check Stjeand AAR we are playing now.
How I wish there was a replay button so one could rewatch the whole game so I could see what went wrong :).

The army conversation looks nice but is it maybe a bit too fast?

My opponent can't play during this weekend. So, you will have to wait a little.

Regarding the army conversion, I think it is nice. Small 20% experience rifle corps, giving a 20% experience small army is quite the same. It is too early to make some conclusion but definitely, I am restating again that the armies "forming" in the deploiement queue must be ANTI-TANK and not ASSAULT. Seriously, I will continue to say it again and again to increase Panzer/Mechanized corps losses.

Looking bad for Russia. Good defensive battle around Smolensk, one Tank Corps destroyed. This patch is better. But, here it is. This is early July and I have only 7 full armies forming now in the deployment queue.

9 corps converted to small armies. I have a silly idea but if the rifle corps would convert to full armies, it would work.
Not for free of course. But my idea is that a 20/20 manpower corps would go directly to 20/36 full armies.

This way Russia manpower could be used to fill in these full armies. At 20% experience or 40% experience, they are pushed anyway.

Honestly the killer is the date...

That would have been the first turn of the German attack in reality, instead they are way out by Kiev and even nearing Tula.

They will need some time to recover...but there is still a lot of time left in the summer of 41...
We all know 1942 is the tell-tale sign to victory.

It looks like your opponent completely ignored the North...which to be honest is not overly important compared to the south and the center.

A couple questions...

1) What are the Allies doing away from Russia? Is Africa weak? Italian invasion? Just wondering. Honestly they should not have to do anything but I don't know.
2) How big is the Russian army compared to the German army?

1. Nearing Tula because the map is wrong. Don't forget Moscow in the game is at the place of Briansk.
2. Allies are invading Persia to bring lend lease from there. Iraq was invaded. BoA on going. Africa is weak. All the Italian mechanized corps are in Russia. Just Malta under siege.
3. See above, there is a screen of the Forces window from end of June 1941. I am building nothing. I am putting everything on repairing manpower to the on-map units.

Next turn, one shattered army is coming back plus one full army in the deployment queue is ready.
Only 6 full armies forming in the deployment queue.

I have nothing in production. I am just bringing manpower to the existing on-map units. That's why the idea to convert a 20/20 manpower corps directly to 20/36 full armies will work. You use the available big manpower by / for repairing units. This way you have enough production to survive.

EDIT: AND something super important, with the repairing of the 20/36 full armies, you are bringing, to the Red Army, experience improvement to those 20% experience' armies since the based experience is now around 40% by default.

My army is still weak in term of experience. One army and one corps overrunned. One army destroyed. But, there is no catastrophic breakthrough yet.

And look at this, look at this. This is July 18th, 1941. I am ending my turn with a local counter attack in the center.
I have pushed back two Mechanized corps and one Panzer corps. And I have shattered a third Mechanized corps.

Yes end of 1941 is far away...

His units look really weak, too weak to continue...

You should get about a month of rest at the moment...
Infantry backup for the armor / mech appears to be oddly absent.

Hope so, the bad days are coming. Time to withdraw. But doing so, I am losing Production Points and Manpower. I am still at 93% despite reinforcing every units. Everything is going to repair/upgrade.

Game number 444992. Username is Custine.

During August 1941, the progression was slowdown. I like to see more German losses than usual. But, production penalizes me. Indeed, all the PP are assigned to repairing existing units. The problem is that I have nothing to change the advancement of my small rifle armies. As such, I can't merge small armies Assault with Anti-Tank.

Anti-Tank is what I buy at 40% experience and Assault is what I have on map at 20% experience. The thing is all the small armies are around the map. Sometimes at 1939, 1940 or 1941 levels.

That's why doing the conversion directly to 20/36 full armies will ease the PP needed.
