BEF and French morale

Post by DavidDailey »

What is required of the BEF to maintain French morale? 1. If the BEF returns to Britain immediately after appearing in France is the morale lost? 2. If the units initially appearing are replaced with, say, garrisons from England is morale lost? 3. If the BEF is quickly destroyed by the Germans is morale lost? 4. Where exactly must the BEF be in France to maintain morale? If they deploy to, say, the Italian border is the morale lost? 5. What squares constitute "northern France" and how many BEF units must be in the Maginot Line to retain French morale? If the above questions can be answered with a few precise statements as to what constitutes the BEF, where and how long must they stay to retain French morale, when this requirement expires, if ever, then that will answer my questions. Thank you.

To benefit from the presence of the BEF, a minimum of 2 units are needed, and for them both to be either within 7 hexes of Paris or 3 of Nancy. All land and air units count.

There are bonuses/penalties to French morale based on the presence or absence of British units. They aren't huge but they do mean that the French will have a chance of fighting on longer if the British are present, not just for their combat skills but also because of the effect on French morale. So, if the Brits make a token appearance and then just cut and run it has a negative effect.
