Tutorial 3 - My artillery is NOT supplied with smoke rounds

Post by alfresco »

As I am playing through the third tutorial, I noticed I'm not able to lay smoke rounds. When I go to the unit dashboard, my only barrage options are suppression and neutralization. I am referring to the 155mm SP artillery. I also noticed they are supplied with HE only. On the other hand, the 107mm SP mortar units are supplied with smoke rounds and I have the option of using

Can someone please tell me what's going on?

I'll review the latest update today and see if we broke the ammo loadouts for the Artillery again. Hazards of code and data tweaking, I'm afraid.

Appreciate that Jim.

I should point out that the same smoke problem applies to most, but not all, of the other scenarios.

Thank you.

I"ll pass along a note for the team to review the scenarios and ensure the ammo loadouts are as intended. I can fix Tut#3 and post it this weekend so folks have a properly working scenario.

Do fixes like these get updated automatically on the Steam version or is there something we need to do on our end?

If it is an official update, yes it will. In this case, you would need to unzip the game folder into the scenario folder.

Appreciate this, Jim.
As for the other scenarios and campaigns, will the lack of smoke rounds for medium arty be addressed in future updates?

It will depend on the design intent of the scenario designer and if there was some loss of loadout. Most scenarios should be good as is. They will get reviewed.

Hello to all
Im playing through the Tutorial scenarios with the manual too to get familiar with the game.
In Tutorial #3 the description of the operations manual calls for the A Company of the M109's to lay a smoke screen right at the start.
But in my Game Version the 109's don't have any smoke ammunition available.
I read this post on the forum and I have the file:
Tutorial #3 - Advanced Features (2).zip
Fix for Tut#3
(1002.46 KiB)
I downloaded the file and installed as described.
When loading the scenario, I get the following error:
„This scenario file was made with a NEWER Version (ver 425 vs ver 423) oft he game than you have. You have game version 2.1.4.8795s.
Please update your game executable to the latest version and try again.“
Tutorial #3 will not load, game hangs up
In Steam there is no update available
Can you help me please?
Kind regards
Juergen

Here is the updated Tutorial 3 file with corrected ammo for the M-109s.

For Steam install:
1. Right-click on the Southern Storm game picture
2. Go to Manage, Browse Local Files
3. Double-click on Modules
4. Double-click on FCSS
5. Double-click on Scenarios
6. You should be in the Scenarios folder with all the scenario folders.
7. Now locate the downloaded replacement file and double-click to unzip it
8. Then move the unzipped folder into the open Scenarios folder.
9. Choose yes to replace the existing files/folder.

This should correct the ammo-type issues.

Tutorial #3 - Advanced Features.zip
I am confused by step 9. It doesn't ask if I wish to any replace existing files.

Is there a name change required first?

Should Advanced be renamed Intermediate?

This is what I have after completing Step 8:

ChesterNimitz, you may not need to, depending on Windows settings. If the new files are in that folder, then you are good to go.

I appear to have smoke now with most of my arty.

Is there any arty that doesn't have smoke?

Smoke and other special ammo types depend on how the scenario designer sets the loadouts for those systems. Most mortars and guns have smoke rounds by default with HE rounds.
