Historical transfer of Divisions

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Historical transfer of Divisions

Post by WebCommand »

Historically during longer operations divisions were moved from one army to another, at certain points, depending on necessity.
For instance, in Battleground Italy the 46th BR Inf Div was part of the 8th Army for Operation Husky but later transferred to the 5th Army for the Salerno landings, if I´m not mistaken.
Does the game move them automatically when the appropriate date is reached, or is this up to the player to decide?

I´m starting to play the Battleground Italy scenario and although I haven´t reached that point yet I was wondering how it would work.
Also, I see I have the FF units in Africa that I could use for Husky but I won´t since historically they will not be used until much later in the mainland campaign. Still, the game leaves that option open to the player.

I´d appreciate any answers.

Changes are up to the player. The scenario designers can only set up the historic chain of command for the first turn.
