Installer is crashing

Post by jungelsj_slith »

Hi, trying to install the game for the first time using the 1.577 installer. Everything works correctly until the "installing files" stage which gets between a third to half of the progress bar then crashes/disappears. I've tried different hard drive & installer locations. Ran with and without administrator. Half of the files do in fact end up in the correct directory, it just quits.

Thanks

You should contact Slitherine tech support for this, they handle the installer part.

Thanks. I eventually got it working by installing & updating in windows safe mode.

However! I'm getting clean crashes to desktop every ~15 minutes of gameplay. Does it spit out a crash log somewhere that might be of use? Windows 11.

The error.log is in Documents\My Games\Armored Brigade 2, but if you don't see any message on screen there probably won't be anything in the log.

Does saving and loading work? The autosave interval default is 10 minutes.

Could there be anti-virus software blocking the installer and the game?

Here's the log -

[Sat Jan 18 23:06:06 2025] DATABASE ERROR: Resource 408/weapon1Casualties in units.xml, missing data!
[Sat Jan 18 23:17:51 2025] ERROR: This application requires OpenGL 2.0 or above. Your hardware only supports OpenGL 1.1. Try updating your drivers, or upgrade to a newer graphics card.

I have a 4090 Super with the latest drivers. I do remember a prompt to install something along with the game, but it then said it's already installed on my machine.

No idea re: missing data, as I haven't messed with any files yet.

Saving - yes, this works. I'm able to play for quite awhile, sometimes. I think the crashes happen when I zoom in close to a unit, will let you know if I ever get a repro.

Thanks.

Looks like the error logs must be something else. I crashed again when I zoomed all the way down to a vehicle and nothing was added to the log. It may have something to do with performance, zooming to the vehicle and having most of the map drawing at once.

Do you remember what was going on in the software when "ERROR: This application requires OpenGL 2.0 or above..." appeared? Did you see it on screen?

Can you send your data\database\default\ammunition.xml file from the game installation folder to me?

Bah, sorry, looking at the time stamps for those errors and the time stamps for when I posted here, it looks like all of those happened during my install attempts, not the in game crashes. The file errors were probably from trying to install again to a directory that had a partial install.

So yeah, the crashes dump me to desktop immediately and apparently don't enter anything into the log.
