Campaign Series: Middle East v3.00.00 Public Beta – Errata & Bug Reports

Post by Crossroads »

I will maintain a list of issues reported during the Middle East 3.00.00 Public Beta in this post. If you spot any anomalies, please report them here.

I'll start with a bug of my own making:

Enhanced Assault Optional Rule is always on – Fixed. I had missed this in the new Scenario Setup dialog. The variable was named OptExtMelee—now I know. Sorry about that!

Iran 3D unit bases leak background color - Fixed. In interim, get yours HERE.

Some Manual errata - To be fixed. Thanks Zovs!

Iraqi M3 Halftracks (3) and Panhard M3 VTT (4) share the same platoon ID -> P247073

Line-of-sight Highlight from empty Map hex is now fixed. Old bug, new fix, mentioning it as I am keeping track of new fixes here.

Manual Errata

Post by Zovs »

The manual states:

Movement and combat is performed on a “hex-grid” map that has defined wargaming for over two decades.

The correct time period has been six decades. The manual should instead read:

Movement and combat is performed on a “hex-grid” map that has defined wargaming for over six decades.

:D but its the truth, I believe the first appearance was in 1961 with Chancellorsville, prior to that the Avalon Hill Game Company was using squares.

Manual Errata & Bug Reports

Post by Zovs »

On page 130 in the Bootcamp tutorial for CME it says:

At the bottom left of the screen are the United States and South Vietnamese flags, indicating it is the United States and South Vietnamese turn and a turn counter, with 12 turns available for this scenario. As the turns progress, the white bar will turn red.

This is incorrect it should be the British Union Jack flag.

Lastly this scenario has 8 turns and not 12.

Manual – Errata & Bug Reports

Post by Zovs »

Page 137 the manual is out of date with the UI. The manual states:

“What do you need to do win the scenario?” You can see what the victory conditions of the scenario by accessing Status → Victory from the main menu.

There is no longer a Victory dialog. Instead it should be SITREP and it would be nice if there was a update showing and describing the three tabs (not sure if its in the main manual yet, as I am going through the bootcamps and that part of the manual first).

The manual states:

From the open Victory Dialog, you’ll notice that you start the game with 30 points, a Major Defeat, and need to acquire 170 Victory Points to gain a Major Victory.

But with the new UI it shows Objective Points and Victory Values, with Side A Objective values showing as 96 and Side B as 1, and the Victory Values showing as Major Defeat 90, Minor Defea 110, Minor Victory as 135 and Major Victory as 175. Lastly on the very bottom of this tab it shows; Side A total points 96, and Side B total points 1. Mission total points 95. Outcome Side A Minor Defeat.

Lucy you got some splain to do!

Manual – Errata & Bug Reports

Post by Zovs »

1. Bottom of page 137 is a little misleading:

Hexes 28,15 and 29,15 can be occupied by the SAS Troops currently at hexes 31,8 and 31,7.

The way that reads to me is that in this current turn they can occupy those two hilltop hexes, so when I turned on reachable hexes and went into double time movement I thought I did something wrong since they could only get to the 30,10 and 30,09 hexes.

Perhaps a better wording of:

Hexes 28,15 and 29,15 can be occupied (in three turns?) by the SAS Troops currently at hexes 31,8 and 31,7. On turn 1 use double time to get to 30, 10 and 30,09. On turn 2, the unit can arrive at 29,13 and the other at 29,11 (at least that is as far as I could move them since it does not seem you can double time in two consecutive turns.

2. Continuing on to page 138...

That is all for this turn. Press 1 on the keyboard, to change the view, and then press End Turn, the red button at the bottom right of the screen.

S/B

... and then press End Turn, the dark brown Checkmark button at the bottom right of the screen.

3. Wrong version listed:
Due to the Scripted AI being included in the 2.30 UPDATE

S/B in the 3.00 UPDATE/UPGRADE

4. Wrong Aircraft listed:
In this case it shows “[ B ] FGA. 603[0] off map” meaning a pair of FGA. 6 Hunter armed with bombs are available off map to conduct an airstrike.

S/B

In this case it shows “
[6] [Bombs] Hawker Hunter FGA.6 -- Off map, Available -- 683[0]
[2] [Bombs] Hawker Hunter FGA.6 -- Off map, Available -- 684[0]
[2] [Bombs] Hawker Hunter FGA.6 -- Off map, Available -- 685[0]
” meaning a trio (?) of FGA.6 Hawker Hunter's armed with bombs are available off map to conduct an airstrike.

5. Lastly, the manual states this:

After it is plotted, the Air Power in the Unit List will turn to 0, meaning that you will not have access to additional airstrikes until that Air Power is replenished.

Not quite following this, since all three show 0, and after you assign the mission per the manual it greys out that line. The other two aircraft look like they are selectable for further missions, so need some clarification here.

Just a note things start to fall apart at this point (turn 5) and the manual is out of sync with what is happening on the map, but not much one can do about that. For example I have followed the tutorial to a tee to this point but now its out of sync meaning I have one SAS Troop in 32,14 and the CO and SAS Troop in 30,14, and the Yemenis Armor Column is now bypassing the area as best as it can. This means I need to use my SAS Troops a little differently then what the tutorial recommends.

Finished out the tutorial, on to the next one and next section of the manual.

The 3.00.00 Public Beta will remain out for a bit yet, it is the 3.00.01 version that will be frozen as of tomorrow.

3.00.01 will be released at the end of the month, it will take some time to properly prepare the Official release installer as well.

Should there be other issues found from the Public Beta then those will be fixed in 3.00.02 at some other date. Fingers crossed! So the cycle goes.

Manual – Errata & Bug Reports

Post by Zovs »

I understand that more than likely both the Vietnam and Middle East manuals share the same basic documentation, but as I am looking through the Middle East game and the PDF I see 29 references to Vietnam in the Middle East manual.

Pages:
42, 70, 82, 84, 91, 113, 116, 122, 130 (twice), 166 (twice), 168, 174, 179, 189 (twice), 190, 193 (three times), 195 (twice), 202 (twice), 308, 350, and 360 (twice). (only the last page 360 is legitimate as they reference code changes to both games)

While this may not sound like a big deal its sort of annoying when your reading about the Middle East to see things like:

Page 202:

9.0 Scenario Listing
9.1 Stock Scenarios
You will find an assortment of maps that provide the location of the battle, with a title, date, and historical preamble of the battle.

In the majority of scenarios, the SIDE B (Viet Minh/Viet Cong/NVA) has been scripted, so they are recommended to play as SIDE A. A small number have had both sides scripted. While the legacy AI (aka not scripted) is still available within the Campaign Series, it is not recommended for play, especially with the complexities of the Vietnam war.

After the scenario briefings are a handful of maps that provide an overview of South Vietnam and then further Corps area maps that highlight key boundaries and cities.

etc.
