Collapsing Vichy in Missed the Bus

Post by CanInf »

So... I collapsed Vichy on my first move in the 1940 start scenario and was shocked to find the USA lost all its chits and then some... The USA now can never declare war on Germany.... this seems a tad odd...

this isn't a bug, but I thought preventing the USA from ever declaring war wrecked the game. Now I am not so sure. The RN is now much stronger after Vichy collapse and the free french can cooperate with the CW. Plus.... the allies have access to a substantial French force pool which means the USA can simply buy french units and have them do all the fighting for them....

Losing US entry chits for collapsing Vichy is a bug. Collapsing Vichy should add one or two US entry markers (it is +18 on the US entry chart). Thus collapsing it should in no possible way cause the inability for US to DOW anyone.

Serious bug if happened as described, and as I understand it.

rules as written:
"If Vichy France collapses, it ceases to exist as a major power. All of
Metropolitan Vichy France is now conquered by the Axis major power
that installed the Vichy government (see 13.7.1).
Each home country or territory aligned with Vichy France becomes
conquered by any Axis major power that has a land unit in it.Other
home countries and territories aligned with Vichy France align with Free
France (or become Free France with a new home country if it is
currently completely conquered)."

so once the countries align with free france that triggers this: "Allies align minor (Ge/It)" (line 30 on the us entry actions...)
so far as I can see the game is implementing the rules correctly. Are the rules sane? that's another question

Allies align minor is an effect resulting from a voluntary alignment by the Allies. It does not apply to actions taken by the Axis. For example there's no negative US entry effect when Germany DoW's Poland and it is aligned to the CW, or when Germany DoW's Belgium or the Netherlands and they align with an Allied major power.

And it certainly doesn't apply to Free France getting back its own aligned minors.

someone must have collapsed Vichy in the Global war scenario.... and would have noticed this by now. is it just this scenario? that can't be right.

it is known that vichy declaration and collapse is full of bug. some of them reported 10 years ago.

I just avoid it. back in the day I did make an expensive testing of it. but when I realised it was not a priority I stopped.

A workaround would be to edit in "dummy" chits into the Ge/It entry pool that are "lost" to the bug. Painful but a straight forward workaround.

If you don't mind, post me a game file before the collapse and I'll show you how I'd edited it to work around. As specifically, add in the "dummy" chits to be pulled.

In fact, I'll show how to make the correct draw and "add" in the +1.8 expected chits (i.e., 1 or 2 ) that should be added in vs the ones that are erroneous pulled out.
