Flaws in Euro-Version?

Hello Gentlemen!
After lurking quite a while on this board and finally buying the Euro version of this outstanding game I have some questions.

1) P-39D Aircraft Pool
In the aircraft replacement pool there are two entries for the P-39D Airacobra with different replacement rates. But only one P-39D Airacobra pool is used, the other is just piling up aircrafts month after month...
Also on the aircraft information screen there are two entries for the P-39D with exactly the same data...
Is this a bug or should the two entries represent two slightly different versions of the same aircraft?

2) AA ship uprade for the Farragut and Porter class
After upgrade the data for the two classes read as follows:

Farragut 280 AA value
20mm Oerlikon *2 RS (1)
20mm Oerlikon *2 LS (1)

Porter 250 AA value
40mm Bofors *4 F (4)
40mm Bofors *4 R (4)
20mm Oerlikon *3 RS (1)
20mm Oerlikon *3 LS (1)

The respective AA value after upgrading seems to be in line with the values from another thread, but why should the ship with more AA guns have a lower AA value? What am I missing here? Or did they mess up the database for the Euro version?

3) AA and ASW values from 1-10 when rightclicking on a ship
When I rightclick on a ship in the ship selection screen I get detailed ship info and an AA value of 250 or something but no ASW value at all and no "quick" rating from 1-10. Is this a bug in the Euro version?

All of these things aren´t really affecting gameplay but I just wonder whether JustPlay - the distributor of UV in Europe - is up for the job. Especially when considering buying other "converted" games from them with a much bigger database...WitP anyone?

Well, I was asking for the ASW value, too. But I still cannot find it in the ship selection screen. There is an AA value, but no ASW.
What is a "Quick rating"?

All of these things aren´t really affecting gameplay...

It makes the right selection of ships for ASW duty a lottery. So it affects your decisions on gameing.
Can't say anything about that P39 problem because I'm just playing the Japanese side for now and have not tried the Allies.

What is a "Quick rating"?

Well I was just refering to one answer from the pros in your thread where you asked for the ASW value...

Right clicking on the ship in the 'ship selection' screen will give you it's ASW rating (ranages from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most effective) as well as it's AA rating and class.

So it definitely seems to be the case that they "robbed" the Euro version of this quick reference feature.
And yes I have to correct myself: Not knowing the correct ASW value IS some kind of lottery! (Although crew experience seems to be the best weapon) Especially when you look at my AA weapon upgrade example in my previous post, where more weapons mean less overall AA value. So when I am looking at the different number of depth charges at hand I can`t be sure that more of them automatically stands for better ASW value...? That is quite

As to the P39 entries, one (the first I believe) is for US P39D's, the other for Australian (possibly New Zealand as well, but don't think they use the P39). I expect if you don't see any changes in the second entry it means that no Aussie P39D squadrons are in play (no Wirraways either as those should convert to P39D if enough are available).

P.S.: While European, I think I have the original version of UV (1.0 or such patched up to 2.30), so I have no idea whether there are any differences between those editions. I also have never seen an ASW evaluation of ships are you sure that exists?

in a desperate action to get that ASW value working I tried to update my 2.30 with the 2.30 Update from MatrixGames website. The result was astonishing! I expected everything, but not this: The EXE cannot identify the UV CD-ROM anymore as it always requests the original CD, that was in my DVD Drive ((
And my DVD is master on EIDE channel #1 and nothing else is connected to the Southbridge IDE channels. I read in one of the bug reports that the copy-protection has some problems when the CD/DVD-Rom is jumpered as a slave device. It's incredible how stupid these programmers are. Their "the-customer-must-die" attitude really drives me crazy.
So I uninstalled and reinstalled it again.
Right or left clicking in the TF information screen (manual 7.9) always pops up the ship selection screen. There is no difference which mouse button I use.
Haven't tried the middle one or a combination of two or all three yet

I suggest that you use a virtual drive manager: (I'm using Virtual Drive) This program copies an image of your UV disc into the hard drive and emulates a cd rom drive with the original UV cd inserted.

I am new to the game and I just picked up a copy at a local store (European version, already patched up to 2.30). I could not see any ASW rating for ships. I also tried to re-patch using the 2.30 US patch downloaded at Matrix website. I have not experienced any copy protection problem in doing so, but I cannot see any difference with the euro version: no ASW rating is appearing anywhere. I am under the impression that the two versions are exactly the same, but again I am a complete newbie...

Perhaps Matrix can shed some light on this...


OPS.... I am wrong :rolleyes: . I just did another test and the ASW rating does appear in the euro version (without patching with the 2.30 patch in the Matrix website). But it appears only when you pick a ship for a NEW task force using the right mouse button. Exactly as it should. Therefore there in no flaw in the euro version and, most likely, euro and patched-up US version are exactly the same

Regarding your question no 2 about the AA values I think you have missed the
main armament on the ships.

Farragut:

4 x 5in/38 Mk 12 = 4 x 55
4 x 20mm Oerlikon = 4 x 15
= 280

Porter:
8 x 5in/38 Mk 22 Not a dual purpose gun so no AA value
8 x 40 mm Bofors = 8 x 20
6 x 20 mm Oerlikon = 6 x 15
= 250
