Call of Duty

Post by Eric Young »

I got the demo off the PC Gamer CD.

I must admit I am no fan of First Person Shooters, but, this game really rocks. The demo level is the best shooter level design I have ever seen.

Yep. Can't wait fer that Stalingrad battle...

I swapped some of those .WAVS for some of the EYSA sounds (bullets hitting for the screaming, etc.) The sounds work pretty nice with EYSA.

Yeah I like it too.
I cant wait to see the Stalingrad levels, if they are as good as the demo. The whole feel of the game is great, with teammates actually doing something.
But the little detail that got me hooked, was when a mortar blew up too close to me, and I felt the effect of the shock and of only hearing this high pitch sound.

Yep, true. It´s a tad more gamey then MOH but it defenitly creates a massive immersions factor. and it´s really tense! Really looking forward to the game.

Been hit by a mortar round allready Image Image ?

I think I have played the demo level a thousand times allready Image

What's CoD like? Can any of you make a comparison to the Red Orchestra Beta 1 mod for UT2K3?

I guess they don't have a multiplayer demo for it then? :(

If it's a bit gamey, I may just wait for the WW2 mod for Ghost Recon for my next WWII shooter.

How cool is that mortar hit ? If I recall the screen sort of blacks out a little as well. Its the small stuff that makes games I reckon, a fact often overlooked I guess.

I haven't played Squad Assualt yet but I read in an AAR on another forum of this squad that gets the jitters and a particular squaddie who panics and runs away shrieking  Nice touch.

Remember the SPR scene where a shell explodes near Captain Miller ( the Omaha scene) ? That´s almost like it, blurred vision, completly laggy controlls if any and blurred sound too. It really adds to the game Image

More "gamey" than MoH ?!! yrrrrrrccccchhhhhhhhhh..... but I guess I should try the demo. I more or less gave up on CoH when even one of my more "action" orientated squad-mates said it was complete pants compared to Hidden and Dangerous 2.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned H&D 2 in this thread yet. For a WW2 tactical shooter, look no further. Best shooter of any kind since Operation Flashpoint.

Another good example is in the BoB series in Carentan when the mortar comes through the roof and everything got muffled and disoriented.

Check out when you get through the chicken coup section after dude says "lets cut through these houses".There is a paratrooper comin down on the church were the MG 42 is set up.Check the steeple,a chute gets caught up on it!!

Also the sound of the clip being discharged after you go through a clip using the M1-garand.

Has anyone picked up the FG42 that is lying on the ground after you wipe out the second flak-panzer?Its a cool weapon with a scope....deal out the head shots man.

My only beef is the MP40 seems to have more knockdown power than the Thompson.

Also it is a tad gamey but still....Im gonna snatch this sucker up ASAP.

Does anyone have the Dawnville demo?I think its the one in the PC gamer, the daylight level after the night level wich I have.

MP all the way in this badboy.

Yes, I have played both. The dawnville level is what got me so excited. I think it is way better then the downloaded level.

I agree the atomosphere is fantastic! That FG'42 is awsome, I had no idea it was a scoped weapon. I also think the Tommy gun is way over powered and I agree the mp40 is underpowered.

From all of the screenshots I've looked at, it looks like the Stalingrad level or atleast part of it is exactly the same stuff from the film Enemy at the Gates  . The rest of the Baker company level sounds good, It will be cool to have a car chase! :o

After reading the revier in PC gamer they said the russian campaign is the best. With the most action.

The worst being the Brit were you are a commando.Lotsa sneakin not enough war.

I thought the MP40 was overpowered and the thompson under powered,Did i write it backwards?

Lookin forward to this one!!Another day or two ond it Wooohooo.

I was playing the demo and I was at the part whent he Pz IV come throught he wall with a platoon of Jerries. I started shooting and running back at the same time and managed to make it to a small house, but before I could dive in, the Panzer fired! The shell knock me down and as i stood up and crawled into the house a German ran out at me!!! The following gunfight in the slowmo/dazed mode, makes me give this game the Coolest Shooter Ever Award!!! I cant wait to go buy it. :D I was super impressed.

Try these levels on hardcore without stepping on a medpak(extra difficult because they are all over the place).
