What Are Your *Must* Buy DVD Movies?

I just bought a DVD player for my TV.

Heheh, I know, I'm coming late to the DVD craze [:'(]

However, now that I have experienced the joys of DVD quality movies, I am drawing up a list of "must" buy movies to get.

I have a lot of movies on VHS, and most aren't worth the extra expense of buying them on DVD as well.

I definitely want to get all the Lord of the Rings DVDs, especially the extended versions that are packed with extra movie footage and extras.

I am also looking forward to getting the extended version of Das Boot due out on June 1, which will be six hours long.

2)Patton - Because of Wide Screen addition.
3)Longest Day- Same as above.
4)A Bridge Too Far.

Others:

1)From The Earth To The Moon.
2)Looney Tunes Golden Collection
3)The Outer Limits - Original B&W Series
4)The Twilight Zone- Original B&W Series
5)The Simpsons
6)Final Fantasy-Special Edition
7) Star Trek- The Original Series,(Looks like it was shot last week!!)

And of course you mentioned: All Of the Lord Of The Rings!![&o]

And about another million or so TV series and movies.

When I was looking through the movies/series available for DVD, I was amazed at what is being offered - just about everything that was ever done for TV or the cinema.

Now that I have experienced DVD, I can now see the urge to "escalate" to surround sound and a larger TV.

Oh, lordy, does it ever end? [:D]

Von Rom, if you're a rock fan, you're in for a treat. I have a few concert DVDs, and one of the best is Led Zeppelin DVD. Also recommended is the Rolling Stones' "Four Flicks".

Well there just ain't no point in suggesting titles of classic must haves if they ain't on DVD right

Now many have posted to many threads of what they call "great" movies. Thus far, I have heard people slag virtually every film ever made. Including Band of Brothers.

Therefore, I have listed what I bought, and generally speaking, when a person will actually buy the film, that has to mean it was worth watching more than once, period.
Regardless of whether we thought this that or the other thing about what was wrong with the vehicles, the uniforms, the acting, the special effects etc etc etc.

I have seen World at War on DVD and Victory at Sea, but the price tag keeps it a triicky target for me. It seems a lot of good vhs documentary has not made the move to DVD, must be to small a market.

Outside of the military line, I have to say, nothing really equals the 4 disc sets released for Lord of the Rings. I have the first two, and fully intend to get the 3rd.

My main pre occupation though, is anime I have hundreds of anime DVDs of some of the best in anime (as well as some stuff I am sure you guys would laugh at hehe).

I am very fussy on music video DVDs, but have some ABBA, some Queen and got Rush in Rio for christmas.
Generally, I prefer the group was already major league famous before I will buy the video DVD. So just having a couple of hits, and then disappearing a year later means they ain't worth my money. Which explains why I have bought almost nothing from new groups made in a decade. Most of it is one hit wonder garbage.

Well the only film I own on DVD is 'The Evil Dead 3: The Army of Darkness'. Total 'Schlock Horror' and one of the funniest films ever made. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell at their 'B Movie' best.

Music wise the Led Zep DVD is a must have as is the 'Concert for George Harrison'

That being said, can we force Tom Hanks and the folks who did Band of Brothers to get together every year or so to make something? They could re-do all the old classics, then tell stories we haven't seen.... Tarawa, Iwo, Pelilieu, etc. They're the only folks I've seen do the war and those who fought the justice they deserve - I just wish they'd do more....

Well, madflava, there's a thread on the SPWAW forum called "A Band of Brothers for the Pacific". Hanks & Spielberg are teaming up to do this very thing, so we will probably see this in 2005, to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the end of the war.

I definitely like the "old" rock - heh. Big fan of Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd, et al. I saw the Stones' Babylon Tour at the IMAX - better than being that the concert in person. I will be checking out their music videos as well.

Well, I bought both extended versions of the Lord of the Rings. I also had a couple of extra speakers kicking around, so I hooked them up to my stereo, which is connected to my TV, which is connected to the 'ol DVD. . .

It's not quite professional surround sound, but I still notice quite an improvement.

With that done, I decided to watch the first part of the Lord of the Rings. It was even better than I had expected. The extra 30 minutes of footage added to the movie really added to the story and filled in a lot. I especially liked the extra footage in the Elfin lands. Truly a magnificient achievement.

If anyone hasn't seen the LoTR, or intends to buy the DVD, get the extended version of the first two parts. Well worth the few extra dollars. Really a classic IMO.

I'm looking forward to part two - it contains 43 extra minutes of film footage. And I haven't even touched all the extras on these DVD discs.

I am truly sold on DVD - what a difference!

I also notice that many of the older movies are out as well - and they are very cheap - Bridge Too Far is only $10.00, etc.

i would love to see the longest day + a bridge to far on dvd, but i´m
broke in the moment and for rent they are not available. also i think
