marginal victory awarded, decisive earned

Post by mGuyA »

OK, I've read the earlier posts. Let's say the AAR only reports 100 points when more than 100 are earned. This is what I see -

AAR says marginal victory, Axis points 100, Allies 74.
Objs window says 100 for Popenberg Hill and 36.2 for kills - total 136.2.
136.2 - 74 = 62.2, why not decisive?

I have two saved games if someone wants to see them.

I believe that you can only accrue a maximum of 100 VPs (of any kind).

It's not that the game 'only reports' 100 VP; that's the most VP you can earn. Any VP in excess of 100 are discarded when victory is calculated.

This is a deliberate design decision and it gives us a much greater degree of freedom in devising scenarios [:)]. For example, it allows us to set up a situation where you have a number of different ways of achieving enough objectives to get your 100 VP, but if you lose too many men in the process, you still only get a draw or marginal victory. The Arnhem Historical Campaign is a good example: there's a couple of different ways the Allies can get 100VP, so even if you can't get the highway bridge you might still win if you get the railway bridge and enough of the other objectives; but if you get bled dry, you only get a draw. This is because the whole point of the operation was to secure a springboard for further operations, for which a relatively intact force would have been required.

Got it. Makes sense now. So I need to figure out how the allies are getting their points; get mine and keep them from thiers to get a decisive.

Thanks for the help.
