Why will my bombardment task forces not follow orders?

Post by gn08979 »

Marianans scenario as Allies. I create a taskforce of the old battleships, set to bobard. They get about 34 hexes from Guam and they just stay there. Turn after turn and no movement. Any ideas?[&:]

This sounds like a bug i ran into. Is this symptom repeatable if you restart the game and load the save?

I won't know until tonight. I play on my laptop on the train ride home. Train ride is way to short lately.

The only bombardment TF bug I have encountered is that they will not follow another TF when ordered to. I found that if the distance to target/TF fuke level goes red (and says that they are 999 hexes from their destination) then the bug had bitten. Just reassign them the same mission and it sould correct the problem.

I had one get stuck off of Dacca this way. It was assigned to follow a transport TF that was landing at a non base beach hex (No messing with CD guns for me!).

I was going to have it break off and make it's run when it got close to the target. Instead it just sayed out and burned fuel. When I check the info screen it said that it was 999 hexes from its target. I have also seen this when told to go to a non beach hex (I thought Calcutta had a port).

I corrected the problem by changing this mission to surface combat.

so let me make sure i'm understanding the problem.

1. set Bombardment TF to follow transport TF
2. B TF follows
3. you assign it new orders to travel to a target.
4. instead of moving towards new destination....it freezes in the hex you issued the new orders.

correct?

yep. I also tried to have it meet up with an aircombat tf after a bombardment and follow it home (Using it for aircover). again it just stopped until told to go to a destination. Only had this happen in the Indian Ocean.

I'll see if i can duplicate it. If you have a save from before the symptom occurs, that would be helpful too.

I overwrite the same save file so I do not have a save of this happening. I will save one in a separate file if it happens again. Thanks for the help.

no prob. however just remember. We need a save before it happens. So you'd need to have a save of the turn before the symptom occurs. Anything after the fact and the developers cant pinpoint the cause.

thx

Sometimes when I set a replenishment TF to follow another TF it says it has to travel sometimes as many as 3000 hexes. Its not big deal because I see no other bugs involved but the range numbers get screwed up.

Watch the speed settings. When you set things to other then *mission* speed, you create a solution logic problem.

Ship a will never catch Ship b because ship b is moving faster then ship a. Leaving speed set to mission allows the computer to adjust the speed to solve the equasion. Locking it prevents a valid solution and it goes nuts trying.

Just as a thought: bombardment TFs should be made up of ships that can travel over 30 kts, especially when doing a night attack (ie, "retirement allowed"). They are intended to move fast. (This was mentioned in the Tutorial manual.)

Also, check fuel. If your fuel does not allow for a flank move into the base, bombardment, then flank out, you ships will only hover at their staging point -- 3-6 hexes out, usually (if not more).
