Trouble starting an PBEM game

Post by Bertram »

My opponent and I have some trouble starting an e-mail game.

After exchanging profiles my opponent wanted to play TOA as German. He started the game up as secure e-mail game , and tried to start his turn. This didn't work, as I should in that ccase do the first turn.

So I restarted the game, and send it to him. He had trouble playing that one (might be due to the fact that i didn't rename the game).

Then he started an game, don't really know if heplayeda turn, but I can't open it, as the game thinks we got different version... (error message: different versions are being used, your opponent has a later version).

Bertram,

Probably a question Alex will have to answer but what I hear sounds like one of you was in editor and hit save (changed date on scn files).

Most of my TAO scn files are 8/24/04 3:05am. See if you and your opponent have a match on this date/time.

Hi Bertram,
Who was your opponent? It may have been one of the testers (who's version may give an error like that you are describing). If you were to forward me the turn you cant open at support@ssg.com.au, i would be able to give you some more info.

Regards

Ok, I am still trying to start an e-mail game, and haven't got the faintest idea what to do.

I want to play an game of TAO against TNTom. I start the menu, choose the "start a battle". I select the battle, and choose "setup email game".

I select the relevant profiles, with TNTom as Axis, player1, and me as Allied, player2 and name the game, choose "accept e-mail game".

I choose "start secure game".

Ok, so far so good.

An email is send to TNTom, with as attachment a file called "<filename>_secure_setup.dbn. TNTom opens it, views "Allied turn zero". Should player 1 setup the game? I thought player 2 should???? TNTom has a nice playback of the previous (Axis) turn btw. Is this turn -1???

After exiting he sends the turn to himself. Which is logical as he was the Axis, but not as he was player 1. He sends it of to me.

I try to open it, but it warns me that the game can't be played on the same computer. So the game now thinks that the last turn was played on my computer (which it was not) and that I am Axis (which I am not), maybe because player 2 set it up, when that was not intended?

But then, why did the game send the first email, with the setup to TNTom, and not to me, after I setup? It seems it "understands"the first time that the game should go to TNTom, but after that it gets "confused" about who is who?

Bertram

Nb.: we will try one more time, then I give up.

Ok, next installment. TNTom send me a setup, with me as German. Everything went smooth.

Then he send me a second setup, with me as Allied and him as German. He should not have setup that one that way of course. I got a file I could open, with the Allies as selectable troops, and the Germans not moved yet. I hit the replay, and everything went funny (attacks in the rear, jumps all over the map) and then blackness, and a CTD.

Seems to me this is the source of our trouble. We (I) set up the first file wrong, and it appears that somehow this keeps "hanging" in my machine. Now all my setups (at least with this battle - even if renamed - , and with this opponent seems to be not functioning.

Mainly just a bump, as I haven't got any resposn yet.... Alex, I did send an email to your address, did you get it??

My opponent TNTom, mailed me that he had the same problem with other opponents that started a game, with him as German, so maybe the problem is on his side.......

Meanhile I am having fun as German against him, that game is doing ok
