Para drops

Post by mucky »

If i know that ENG unit is present in a base (All by itself) how successful would a para drop be? and how quick could i capture the base? (Obviously depending on their prep points)

Im playing as japan.

I cant give too much away for the fear of my PBEM Partner finding out! [X(]

Use them at your own risk. They may disappear on you. There is a little bug with air transport and para drops.

Para drops are best used at undefended bases.

Hi, I find I often need more then 1 day to take a base with paratroops. Some bases I have been dropping troops on for 3 or 4 days before I capture it.
So you need lots of transports and on day one you should have several para units in reserve. For port hexes within air range (and your dropping paras so it's in range) form a FT of a SNLF and send it the day the drops begin. Or better yet start the drop the turn it will arrive. Then you have extra troops to help the paras. (and a garrison when the paras are pulled out)
When you take the base begin transporting AV units and regular infantry. Stop transporting the paras (send a FT to pick them up) Then you have CAP the next day.

Turn you capture airfield transfer fighters
begin transporting AV

Next turn you have a working airfield.

As Japan in a PBEM I managed to take Bataan with both airborne regiments (I was silently waiting for both units to disappear during the battle). It did take like 2 turns to pound my way thru but he couldn't get units there fast enough to save his base force unit.
Be weary, very weary of that disappearing unit bug.
Hope this helps
