You can use them in conjunction with an AV at a forward base. This will allow them to be shot down either by allied carrier raids or by allied LBA. As an alternative to this, you can put them on a CS; this will allow you to take them to a location that is more convenient for the allied player to them shoot down.

Seriously, they are good on CS to fill out CAP in a CVTF, or they are good at a base with an AV (and preferably other fighters), as this way they won't count against the aviation support of the base. They can also be good point defense for a location that the allied player can't get fighters over; they may keep unescorted bombers at bay.

CS is actually a very good idea. Thanks.

You can even put them on BBs and CAs to give you surface and bombardment TFs some integral CAP.

In the TEAM game Feinder and I have going agaist Ltfighter and Kbullard, I use them to try to set up mini CV conflicts minus the CVs. They sail their IJN CA/CS groups to within range of my AVD outpost that is protected by CAs. Then we attack each other with the float planes until one of us decides that the other is sneaking up something bigger than a CA and retreats. Lots of fun, absolutely NO damage to the opposing TFs, but makes for interesting combat reruns and reports.

And the bonus is that all this time we get to listen to Feinder complain that we should be using MY CVs with real torpedos and bombs instead of the float planes to try to sink the IJN. Where is the fun in that?

Knavey, what allied float fighters do you have? I was unaware that there are any allied ones.

Seagulls I bet. I seem to recall hearing of an incident in the SoPac where a B-17 got into a scrap with a Kawanishi. The result was predictable but it had to bave been one of the most rediculous areal encounters of the war.

Isn't the Seagull a float plane, not a float fighter? I thought that the only float fighters in the game were the Zeros which had been equipped with floats, though the Japanese may have done the same with later war a/c. I just don't recall any other float fighters.

Knavey is delusional.

The poster is talking about Rufes.

Knavey is the USN commander, and is talking about Seagulls and Kingfishers.

Despit extra flogging and extra rum-rations (good cop / bad cop), he still hasn't managed to get them to fly CAP. So he amuses himself by setting his float planes to Nav Atk.

Dumb question, how do you get the Rufes onto a BB or CA?

Well, first you convert Ise to a BB/CV hybrid....oh, wait, this is a bad idea!

IJN AVs can escort convoys and perform ASW. Allied AVs opnly operate from bases.
CS are very good to use with CVs to increase search capability / CAP / ASW.
