Transports

Post by MikeB »

New to the game...ie 4 games played against AI.
Observation :
Escorts are rarely assigned...leading to quick death of transports.
Western Ally transports tend to group near Gibraltar. As such, Spain
attack has EXTRA benefits of easily killing allied transports via land based air
let alone subs, destroyers and battleships in nearby port.

Curiousity : In the Atlantic, subs that attack and move off an area or two...are hunted down and killed quickly.
In the Pacific...such subs are never noticed, and can continue to attack and move away...virtually free! [:-] This sounds like a hidden benefit to the Allies ala Grigsby early games. Italian subs - once through Suez..also gain this benefit.

I expect human players would be more apt to provide protection to transports...as well as hunt down transports-be they in Atlantic OR Pacific.

Yep, you got that right.
If you are not playing a living, thinking, coniving human mind then you will learn skills that will get your ass handed to you when you do.

My advice is to get into PBEM as soon as you learn the mechanics of the game.

The Western Allies player has two opportunites to hold off Italian subs. Should Cairo fall, a few units stationed in Ethopia will keep the breach from moving any further. Due to the frozen zones, Germany rarley will be able to take Ethopia.
