Land Movement Frustration

Post by acmejeff »

I have read some of the threads on land movement concerning getting units in a stack to follow. I pick the unit that should be the slowest and have my other units follow it but I still end up with HQ units become pathfinders and getting themselves into trouble with the Infantry far behind. Any tips on keeping units bunched up and showing up in an enemy hex all together?

The follow option seems to work well at sea so why is it such a problem on land!

Version? Patched to or started with?

I've used follow very sucessfully in 1.4 on Land. Like you said, pick the unit that's the slowest and hit the ALL FOLLOW button. Never had a problem yet, so curious about yours.

This is broken according to Frag in another thread. They are working to fix following urgennt problems:

ORIGINAL: Mr.Frag

#1 Auto-Convoy code
#2 LCU Follow code
#3 Doubling pool cost of air groups (disband)
#4 Infinite LCU growth (divide/rebuild)
#5 River Assault code

While there are others and everyone is going to jump on with their pet peeves, these are considered to be of a critical nature and merit special attention. I should probably lock this thread down before the rants start

Was this broken in 1.5, or already in 1.4 (LCU follow code). I never had a problem with it in 1.4 (used it all the time)....

Was already broke. I don't know if EVERYONE had the problem, but certainly some people did...

Problem is to find the slowest unit. A heavy ART unit with low fatigue will march faster than a fatigued INF division. And as INF units do the fighting while ART is only bombing.

I have allready tried to change orders after some days and said to the first units to follow the last one. IIRC the first don't lose their mileage allready done and wait at km 59 that the last unit catches up.
