Replacing Balkenkreuz with Hakenkreuz

Post by Titan79 »

Hi guys!

Could anyone tell me if there exists a "patch" that allows to replace the actual german grey nationality symbol with the historically more accurate swastika? I've just seen such a thing in other wargames like Strategic Command: European Theater and I'm sure it could be done even for the superb GG's WaW...

Thank you very much for your help!

I think the problem is that the "Actual" German WW2 flag offends too many people out there who can't see beyond a symbol. I had a grandfather fight and die against the Nazi's and as a Canadian I have NO sympathy or fondness for Nazis's. HOWEVER it is JUST a flag and honestly a beautiful one at that. I think the real issue is legal however. I think it is actually ILLEGAL to have the swastika appear in some countries and possibly that means the makers of this game could get sued if they used the historically accurate national flag of WW2 germany. Increadibly pathetic and stupid but then again I think it is easier to ban a symbol and hope that keeps people happy than actually hold individuals responsible for any hate they may spread. I feel bad for the Buddists who have had a symbol stolen from them by the nazi's and now that "symbol", rather than the goons and thugs who twisted its meaning, is persecuted. Just my 2 cents.

Actually not only budism, but a whole lot of societies, cultures and religions. This symbols is almost as old as mankind (well not really of course [;)])

To answer the question, I´m not aware of a mod for this but it´s one that can be easily made by somebody talented enough. Something for the "modding" subforum.

Other than flags.tga and flagbut.bmp, what needs to be changed?

Does anyone have a host I can upload these to when done?

Here is my quick go over on flags.tga. I also did flagbut.bmp. I used http://www.nobelmann.com/about/haken/hakenkreuz.gif

Silly note to be sure, but I think that US flag is incorrect. Shouldn't it only have 48 stars?

Ok, I finished a quick mod and will upload to rapidshare. I'll post a new topic with the link.

just a silly note ...
while im no buddist, the buddism symbol is the mirror image of nazi's. so u can say that the nazi's somehow "borrow" the idea, they made some minor changes.
