I'm upset

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

I'm upset

Post by siRkid »

I just fought a detailed battle as the French Vs. Denmark. I outnumbered them 2:1 and was kicking their butt. My unit's Moral were all above 7 and the next thing I know "The French Sound Retreat." Not one of my units were routed and several of there’s were. Why did the AI route all my units? And why did I have to set there for 5 min waiting for the pieces to route off the map?

This is a bug that many of us have experienced recently. I believe Eric found at least one cause of this problem and it will be rectified in the next patch.

Similiar mysteries led me to stay away from detailed battles, though quick battles still have their fair share of results I found too interesting.

The main reason I bought and play the game is because of the detailed battles.

The chief reason I stay away from detailed battles is I found them not that pleasant to resolve them. I can't really tell if an enemy unit is disordered or not, there seems to be no text illustration of the status. Flashy reports of casualties and related info. Units move to their destinations slowly, rather than instantly. Can't control initial setup of units. And many battles take too long to finish.

Something for everyone - if you dont want to fight detailed battles, you don't have to.

Perhaps you would be interested to know that initially I didn't like detailed combat either. I played quick battles exclusively until I understood the rest of the game (well, except for trade), and then figured I should try detailed battle again since I was supposed to be testing everything. As it happens, I fell in love, and now adore detailed combat - particularly with the SAVE command currently in beta.

[The other feature I loathed - and avoided - was trade. When I - eventually - got around to really using it, I have ended up quite liking it too. I wonder if I will end up liking privateers...]

FWIW, disordered enemy units look the same as disordered friendly units--they are not in any recognizable formation.
