British Ambition

Post by TheOx »

Let me start out by saying I am a newbie to this game. I've read the manual, played a few dry runs, and engaged in some detailed comabt. I have been attempting to play as GB in the '92 campaign. I want to create an extremely aggressive GB that is upset over the recent loss of her colonies and wants to make someone pay. The [problem is, I am lost when it comes to raising troops. It doesn't seem like Britain has the ability to create large armies. I'm not asking for the British 'Grand Armee', I just want a quarter to half million to go beat the tar out of Spain.

Can anyone outline what they do when they want toset GB up for mass infantry production?

PS Im running the beta patch if that makes any difference.

Use diplomats to get your hands on some protectorates (charm, not coup: coup results in you owning the provinces, and the starting forces are disbanded): Saxony normally comes with 80,000 men and a corps, for example. Places like Denmark, Portugal, Venetia and Naples come recommended.

If you increase your feudal level, you will get more troops "for free", but your economy wont be as efficient. You might need to do this if you want to play a British land power [since your small number of origianl provinces don't have very much manpower].

Significant changes to the nature of your nation are possible in COG, but typically take several game years to effect - I made a high morale, economic superpower out of Turkey one game, for example.

"I don't want a british grande armée, just 250 000 to 500 000 men"... At the height of his power Napoleon commanded just over 600 000 men, and it was by far the largest army in the world... JUST 500 000 men?[:D]

LOL, roger that, but from what I have read on these forums it seems France is capable of creating a 1-2 million man army, I'm just looking for my fair share to kick the crap out of Spain, solidify the Empire, and help out the Austrians and Prussians from time to time. No big whoop[:D]
