yes...an other newbee

Post by Oli le Belge »

Well, i begin with a "simple" question [stupid ?[:D]]

Playing France [1805]: most of the time i beat Austria/Russia in a year, but lack of money beat me very soon...the result is "catastrophique": my Grande Armée vanish corps by corps [because i can't pay the men]

What can i do ??

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Common problem, try not to build too many troops, and use foraging rather than depot supply as much as possible.

You should also read Raleghs guides,

Have fun!

you can also disband some troops to lessen support. also tweeak you trades to help . the best part of this game is you really need to plan long term and be smart in the short term.there is alot more here then just raising an army and stomping all over the map. keep at it the more you play the better it gets[:D]

Well, after some weeks of hard work [i try every solution: even maximum taxation] and it's disapointing: after 10 turns, the treasure is depleted and my army vanish.

What are you doing on a turn by turn basis? You cannot build units and develop improvements every turn. You have to budget. The game gives you a ton of information, you just have to use it. France is easier to play economically. Russia I;ve found more of a challenge. I turn the trade advisor on and forget about it. Following Raleigh's guides should help you establish your production. Once set I don't mess with them either. When I have built a surplus of resources, then I build units or develpoments. When writing surrender treaty's make the other country give you a percentage of their income every turn. Also make countries give you their colonies. I have found the colonial warfare improvement great, as it gives you chance of capturing enemy colonies. Try and make countries protectorates. If you annex a bunch of provinces it drives your waste up. Check the economy screen to see what your waste percentage is. Build courts up to level 5 in provinces to reduce waste. Put armies in the field on forage so you don't have to pay for supply. Put loose divisions in cities to reduce cost.

There are so many things you can due to reduce costs and increase income. The formun, Raleigh guides and the rule book are full of ideas. Keep trying, read the above resources and ask questions.

I also use the trade advisor, but it seems that he is spending my money...i also reduce maintenance of my army. I place merchant ship on sea.
I use forage but it cause some loss [because i'm making a mistake i think: grouping my armies]. I don't build any unit [sometimes a division of light infantry...]. When i'm marching into Austria i build supply depot...

The biggest problem is the upkeep of my divisions...

In fact i think i don't beat austria quickly enough, and the problem is Switzerland so what i will try today is to liberate Switzerland [to form a neutral country]. I hope it will push the Austrian IA to attack Bavaria...[in fact with that it's the historical situation...]

EDIT: it doesn't work[:D]

I have an other question: sometimes, on the detailled battelfield a part of my army is not there, sometimes it don't cause any problems, but when you have only artillery and cavalery on the battelfield it's annoying...how does it work ???

If you read the rules on detailed battles only a portion of your army will arrive on the battlefield if you ahve a very large army. There is a limit to the number of units available on detailed battle but I forget what it it. You might also look at the order interface to see if you have the option to reinforce.
