Heavy cavalry

Post by redcoat »

I have noticed that some heavy cavalry units in the Napoleonic BG series have not been marked as such. They do not have the “H” icon on their unit image.

A prime example is provided by French dragoons. They are marked as ‘heavy’ units in BGW and PtW – but the same dragoons are not marked with an “H” in NiR. See the attached image: a BGW dragoon is shown on the left whilst a NiR dragoon is on the right.

There are several other heavy cavalry units in the BG games that do not have a “H” icon.

P.S. I think the unit graphics in the BG games are great.

Yea, I love to play the HPS versions, but the graphics are clearly a step down from the original Battleground series. That's the main reason why I'm eagerly waiting for the Matrix release of the entire BG series!

My old Piczo site seems to be gone, so no more Navajo Nation pics :(

I have just realised - after having a quick look at the OOB file for NiR Borodino scenarios - that many cavalry units are not coded as heavy cavalry when they should be. Not only are the unit icons inaccurate - many heavy cavalry units are actually coded to fight as light cavalry.

I have even found Russian cuirassier units - which have a "H" on their unit icon - coded to melee as light cavalry.

The cavalry units in the Napoleonic series games need to be re-examined and classified, coded and marked appropriately.
