a question about unit density

Post by Mailer22 »

I've been playing ACOW for years and have always wondered--do unit density multipliers affect units when attacking, or only when the densly packed hex is attacked.

Im talking about the little yellow and red dots that appear when you stack too many units in one hex. I know that if enemy attacks a packed hex, they do a lot more damage, but what about when I attack FROM that hex?

They affect both when attacking and defending.

wow, thanks for the fast reply, and so late at night too (at least where I am)

I have always wondered this, and the manual isn't extremely clear on this. Man, gonna really have to watch those unit densities now.

I have 'learned' recently (in a thread at szo i believe)that the penalty only applies to the units actually attacking from the hex, i.e. you have an overstacked hex, but attack only with one unit to avoid the increased losses or into different directions. Is this false information?

Only the units that attack out of any hex are fired back upon, by the defenders, but they are still subject to the density penalty based on the friendly forces that are in the hex.

Thanks for the info Jam. Luckily i applied my false info in only one turn of a current ACOW PBEM.
