Stalin turned out to be the calm, collected sub driver I expected. Although we had just switched sides after previously playing the same scen, I tried to play it as though I had no idea what was coming. Therefore, I just set up a patrol zone for my surface group and had my ASW pattern worked out.
I decided not to use the ASW helos on patrol and only for prosecution since I thought that they would be much too powerful; especially since I already knew that a sub was in the area. I didn't think that it would be 'cricket'. [;)]
Because of the
Bug Report: Sensors won't turn off Intermittent, I turned on my ships to blast the waters constantly. I knew that I would be revealing myself to any sub in the area, but c'est la vie. Normally, I would put them on intermittent in hopes of surprising and catching a sub. That would not be the case, today.
Stalin ran an excellent ingress route. He stopped to listen and gauge my screen, like any good sub commander would. He would have likely gotten through since I had accidentally run a couple of corvettes right out of fuel! So, I decided that I would use a helo in support and plug my holes. I sent her out and got very lucky. One dip and she found herself a sub and launched a torpedo without even asking me.
Anyway, I got lucky. Stalin ran a very competent approach and did all the right things. However, sometimes the other side can get lucky, too.
Great game, Stalin. Thanks and I look forward to many more! [8D]
