Deadball era stats

Post by Sarge »

I have had time as of late to pick up on PSBB after about a year off. I have played or I should say re-played many historical seasons over the couple years of playing PS. But what I am getting at, I started a 1901 career mode using real MLB player and have kicked off the season am approaching May( PSBB 2007 + v1.2) .

But the totals I am seeing are of modern power ball caliber, nothing that would resemble the smallball era of 1901-1930’s .

I am using historical park dimensions where 500’ center fields are common place. Where double digit scores are the norm rather then the exception.

Is there a way to mod/correct this to more mirror historical stats ?

Try using more stadiums from a little later. For instance, put the Braves in Braves Field instead of the South End Grounds and put the Cardinals in Sportsman's Park instead of Robison Field. Give that a try. Even though most of those very old stadiums that were used in 1901 (I usually start in 1903 so the stadiums are pretty much the same as 1901) have far allys and center field, alot of them have very very shallow walls down the lines (Robison Field: 470 down LF line, 520 to LC, and 500 to CF, but the RF line is only 290 ft). Same goes with South End Grounds (445' to LC, 440 to C, 440 to RC.....but only 250 down the LF line, and 255 down the RF line)

Not 100% historically correct, but it makes a huge difference. There are also sliders in the "options" page that you can move to lower/raise the probability of getting a 2B, 3B, HR, etc.....

I'd like to know where you got the ballpark image and are you using other similiar images for other teams ballparks?

Oh and question for SittingDuck, how do you use the XML dead ball file?

They are also scans from a book I have on 1900-2005 uniforms, the book covers every uniformyear to year.

EDIT/PS: Here is a screen of a deadball mod I am working on. The team data box will change as did the uniforms from year to year

That will work for the ones that wish to do their own icon mod, nice find.[;)]

I got the book from the hall some time back, but I sure wish I would have known about this before hand.
