Hey Varjager same here mate- its a great way to meet other people and cross with other cultures, its a learning experience!

But the game needs work!

You better watch out,

I've looked over Iraq, and i have seen
Things are not what they seem.

Yeap, i agree with you 2 guys. At many forums people just "throw pies" for the sake of it and is usually not interested in the area of interest. Dont think you could say that about this place.

And btw Muzrub hopefully the game never vill be complete.......beacuse this forum would get obsolete then.

Very soon? Gary's working on Uncommon Valor and War in the Pacific right now, and they don't even have a publisher lined up for WiR3. Without a publisher they are not going to spend any time on it. Sadly, this is just classic vaporware, and will be for AT LEAST a year, probably more.

Whatever will be published next, WiR remains a classic. And how a classic can become obsolete ?

When no-one plays it after a better game is released.
Things become obselete everyday, even opinions.

Dunno... I still prefer older versions of some games over newer ones.

There is no better game on the russian front, ergo, it will not become obsolete.

"Things become obselete everyday, even opinions."

As the sum total of human thought is 99% opinion (and 1% fact) then yes, most opinions are obsolete before they even enter the mind of the proposer.
(The concept of the 'subjective opinion' fascinates me. 'What is a subjective viewpoint?')

PS

Just got back, As Mr Varjager says, this is a great forum. Never know what will pop up next.

Then that is their opinion...:p :p

It is not my job to placate the feeble minded.

WooHoo, that should get the ball rolling.

PS

I'm guilty of preconceptions myself in many cases.
For example..
My 'opinions' on Monty are hardly realistic, yet i take a comfort from them. Australians have never thought the 'pommies' were good enough to lead us. Monty reinforces that 'opinion'. We look at Galipoli and curse the toff fools who wasted so many australian lives. This is a feeling that will never die here.
And funny enough, Erwin Rommel is held in high regard in this country, anyone care to guess why?

True!

But for how long?
The future can be an amazing place and as such the future could bring us a greater game- I dare say it will.:p

I don't really know, however the small size of the wargaming market means margins are razor thin.

I'm sure its good, but like World in Flames and Third Reich, it is a conversion of a boardgame (well, it looks like a boardgame including a 1 to 6 die roll for combat results). What most of us really want I think is a game with lots of detail and depth, something that is only possible with a computer, something like what Gary Grigsby (WF,WIR) and Norm Koger (OpArtWar) have produced.

Ed. Yeh OpArtWar is pretty good but designing scenerios takes alot of work if you do them from scratch. I like the event tree though, once you get a handle on how to use it properly you can do some great stuff.

Its not just the kind of complex scenarios you can build with it. His Korea scenario is a much better version of the standalone Korea game he produced many years ago. You can certainly do a lot if you have time and patience (and skill?). My main reason for mentioning OPArt though is the level of detail in his equipment database. If you've seen his Barbarrossa scenario that comes with OpArt: Century of Warfare, you'd know what I mean. Almost every piece of equipment and several different squad types, all with their own characteristics. It goes way beyond what Gary did in WIR.

I've got the original V1.0 Of opart so i've not seen the Barbarossa scen. I agree that the Korea Scen is good fun. I've played it right through a couple of times as both sides.
Never played the game pbem though so i should go out and buy the lattest version so i can do so.
By 'Century of Warfare' do you mean it covers right up to the '90's say?
