RE: Op-Fire against Amphibious Invasion

<t> I don't think I was ever that good to begin with. Experimenting with some individual combats involving combined arms on both sides, I am realizing that the combat procedures and resolutions can be tricky. And the optimum attack strategy is often more complex than my usual practice of throwing ...

RE: Op-Fire against Amphibious Invasion

<t> I did some experimenting and careful reading of the manual, with some surprising results:<br/>
<br/>
Situation: US wants to amphibious invade a pacific island that contains 2 (each of) Japanese aircraft, artillery, and infantry units. The US has a substantial (but not unlimited number) of ...

Op-Fire against Amphibious Invasion

<t> After a long hiatus, I am getting back into the game and loving it.<br/>
<br/>
I am re-discovering that even just a couple of artillery and/or aircraft units on a small island or coastal region can decimate a much superior invading amphibious force. Even when I conduct air attacks ahead of the ...

<t> Good to know that the number of units does not show up on my most global view, so I won't worry about that.<br/>

RE: Screen Scrolling

When I enter a value below 1 in the screen that controls the scrolling speed, it is not accepted and the value remains 1. I wonder if there is a way to edit the files directly to override the Preferences screen.

Mod for Map Zoom

<t> I recall once stumbling upon a thread that contained within a description of how one could edit files to adjust the 3 levels of zoom of the map one cycles through using the Tool Bar. But now I can't find it. Does anyone know what thread I am referring to, or how to edit the files to change the 3 ...

Screen Scrolling

<t> Suddenly having more free time on my hands, I decided to install this old favorite (version 1.04) on my PC, which runs on Windows 10. Two technical issues that I need to address before I dive in.<br/>
<br/>
1. The screen scrolling speed is veeeeeeery slow. I have adjusted the speed in ...

Duh. And here I was looking inside of game files for a date to modify. Thanks for pointing this out.

Mod Scenario End Date

<t> I thought that I had seen this topic discussed once before, but now I can't find any such thread (maybe I am thinking of a different Matrix game). But I am interested in modifying a scenario end date, with the object of being able to play a scenario virtually indefinitely in the absence of ...

RE: CLOSE COMBAT +4

And just for the record, the +4 CC modifier still seems to be missing, at least in the SOS Firefights I have just played. Is there a manual fix or update that I can apply? Thanks.

RE: Windows 7 *GUARANTEED* fix

Followed all the steps, but still get the crazy color scheme when I run the program using the win7spwaw.cmd file. Is there any other setting that must be adjusted when using the Windows 7 system? Thanks.

Which upgrade(s): for (1) Fast Play & (2) No 1945 End

<t> I just loaded up an early version of CEAW purchased many years ago from Matrix Games that had been sitting untouched on my shelf for years. Not sure why I never got into it before, but I was inspired to give it a go by how much I like Commander: the Great War.<br/>
<br/>
Anyway, I was able to ...

US Research and Production Limits

In the 1917 and 1918 scenarios, when playing the Entente, the US does not seem to be able to research or produce aircraft or vehicle units. Am I interpreting this correctly, or am I missing something about how to initiate US research and production for these unit types?

RE: Next Patch

<t> Apologies if this is not the type of suggestion you are looking for, as it may not be the sort of thing included in a "patch," but it would be nice to have the option to extend any campaign into 1919. Or, alternatively, to have a 1919 scenario, based on the historical situation at the end of ...

Fog of War

<t> I was wondering whether in a next update, or as a mod, it would be possible to let a solo player have an option to turn off the fog of war. This option is fairly standard in many similar games. I realize that the game is a more accurate simulation of the uncertainty in WWI with FOW. However ...

RE: World War I Books

<t> I may be coming a bit late to this thread, but for my money the best single volume history of WWI (the war itself, not the underlying causes) is "A History of the Great War" by C.R.M.F. Cruttwell. It was first published in 1934, so for that reason this book may not resonate as much as some newer ...

Manchuria and Japanese Resource Flow

<t> Not sure if this is a bug, a rule subtlety, or something else. But it seems that resources can flow for purposes of producing production points from mainland Asia to Japan without use of any transports, so long as Japan controls Manchuria (and the resource centers in Asia controlled by Japan can ...
