It's my understanding that you can change BMan's settings on an existing game by starting the game up to the main screen (don't load the save game), changing what you want to change, and then load up the game.

Go to Bman's Ease of Use on main game screen, go to tactical, select "Mod disabled" for XCom Alien Invasion.

You find bases by successfully completing missions against the "green" circles in a country if a base exists.
Other ways may be possible but that's the only reliable way I've found.

Do others find that Patria is always composed of alien lovers?

Using Windows Explorer, you can look for the manual on the CD/DVD and copy it to your desktop and then click it open. It worked that way for me.
