Re: [Just a discussion] A game that doesn't run on modern PCs shouldn't cost 80eur?

As mentioned, there is an app, on this forum I believe, that will handle most of the "switches" for you and get it running properly without a hiccup. Then, consider this when looking at the price: I usually spend about 1 hour planning, executing, and running each turn once the game gets going after ...

Re: Old Timers

I've been here since 2009. I don't post much but I check the forums every day.

Began with Uncommon Valor, then WITP, now WITP-AE. Started wargaming with Avalon Hill's Panzer Leader in the late 1970's, then Squad Leader, etc, as I suspect many have done. First computer in 1992 and been at it since ...

Re: Some encouragement to Allied players to try out Japan side

Thank you for doing this. I have been contemplating going for a game from the Japanese side and this is an even greater incentive, on top of Kull's speadsheet. Very much appreciated!

Thanks, Nomad. That did the trick. Funny, as I had been running the 64-bit version for some time with no problems. But everything is working fine now.

Having a new problem running tracker. It's won't run the turn and this is the message a get:

RE: Disable political points?

<t> If you REALLY want to spend the time and unbalance the game against the AI (because you will), you can open the AE Editor, pictured in a post above, at the beginning of the scenario, select the units you don't want to be restricted, and change their HQs to an unrestricted HQ. That way, when you ...

RE: Mind Boggling - How do you know you did everything?

<t> TexasThunder - I felt the same way the first time I started a Grand Campaign: overwhelmed at first. I always wanted a massive Pacific War game that covered everything, then thought I wish I hadn't gotten what I wished for! The game sat dormant for years until I gave it a go. But I read the ...

RE: how selecting a target

<t> If you're playing the Allies, which it appears you are, you cannot use a Long Range Cap to "attack" the enemy. This is a defensive measure that can only be applied for your own TF or base. You can select the TF you want to protect with a LRCAP. You cannot select an enemy TF for a naval attack ...

RE: A truly terrible game

<t> Then only frustration I feel in this game is when I suffer a consequence because of my own stupidity or lack of understanding of a rule or game mechanic. I'm still learning. I've also had the game for years, played UV, and have been playing war games in one form or another since the 1970s. This ...

RE: WitPTracker AE Release 1.0

<t> When I first started running Tracker, it loaded in about 11 seconds or so. 265 turns in, it's taking about 157 seconds. I've performed database maintenance by purging alerts older than 25, and at one point maybe 100 turns or so ago I had to start again and reload Tracker with all new date ...

RE: Quick Question about CVE air groups

<t> Ian R - yes, that's what the squadrons are named, and that explains why they won't fly, and why the ship was so overloaded when it left Tacoma. For now, I will use Copahee to ferry planes from Pearl to elsewhere, since I don't "need" an extra carrier right now.<br/>

Quick Question about CVE air groups

<t> I searched for this but my Google fu is not very good. I am playing Allies against the AI, Babes Lite, and just received CVE Copahee out of Tacoma with Wildcats and Dauntlesses onboard. Copahee can carry/fly 24 planes, I believe, but came with slightly more than 40. I know US Carriers can have ...

Hey, we're all still here. I am more of a lurker and don't sign on that often, but I check the forum every single day. Also, I think many people are busy with other things going on right now. You might have seen some things on the news lately.[8D]

RE: WitPTracker AE Release 1.10 Available!

Thanks for the above suggestions. It was indeed a program running in the background, Dropbox, which had always been there but for some reason (maybe an update) was no absorbing much more memory. Once I shut it down, everything worked fine.

RE: OT:USMC junks their tanks (smart breath edition)

Funny how even though 15 year old RPGs supposedly made tanks obsolete, EVERY major power in the world today continues to develop, produce, and field tanks. Seems all the educated people running all those ground forces are not as smart as some of our forum members. [;)]

RE: Auto Sub Ops

<t> I found the best option was not to use auto sub ops, but to set up patrol zones and go from there. As others have mentioned, strange things happen with the auto sub ops. I get this gives the AI an advantage, but the AI part running your auto sub ops does stuff Lockwood and others would never do ...
