RE: Hasty vs. Deliberate Attacks

<t> The problem with WitE is that after T2, there are almost no opportunities to use Pz/PG/Mot divs as suggested above. Hugely deep carpet defenses by the SU make 'war of manouver' nothing more than a fantasy. Now the SU will be able to do this from, roughly, summer '43 on as the Axis will never hav...

RE: 1.06 differences

<t> I do think that 1.06 is significantly better than the previous versions, it has a little bit of actual 1941 feel to it (I am only 8 turns in so no idea whether that persists). Previous versions (as the Axis) devolved into a tedious, boring, ahistorical slog through 8-10 row deep carpet defenses ...

RE: New Public Beta 1.05.53 of WitE now Available!

<t> Wonder if Big Anorak and FlaviusX have any political ambitions: they both have the ability to make important sounding pronouncements that actually contain zero information. That said, I hope they are correct.<br/> <br/> Any idea of when the mooted 1.06 will be out and what it might contain?<br/>...

RE: Can we nerf this at some point next patch?

<t> Anyone who believes that the Germans can build redundant lines deep in the USSR by turn 15 has clearly never played the Axis side. Sure, every hex in Courland will be fed by 4 or 5 rail lines - at least that is where all my HQs seem to think the highest priority is for sending their attached uni...

RE: Sturm Division

<t> I use Sturm divisions the way I imagine they should have been used - i.e. for storming the most difficult objectives (e.g. Brest Litvosk, Odessa, Sevastopol) and breaking through the tough parts of defensive lines. Mind you, I went into the editor and seriously upgraded the TOEs (flammpanzers, S...

RE: airfield attack odds

There are no other opportunities; just hope the Luftwaffe makes some timely interdictions and supports key attacks/defenses. After turn 1, you have done everything you can with it; it is now up to the AI.

RE: Effect of Losing Rumanian Oil on Germany

<t> The Germans have their synthetic oil factories and should run a small surplus in oil and fuel from the start of the war. The synthetic fuel manufacture rate is too low to sustain the Axis but they will have significant stocks to run down - and their supply lines are much shorter than they used t...

RE: my first 17 turns as the axis

<t> Not to the start line (i.e. for the 'bad weather line') - but darned close (maybe 4-6 hexes east of the start line) except Courland and the 'Lvov indent'. So retreating all the way back to non-blizzard zones may be short term tactically sound but it is long term strategically non-viable. I don't...

Only 1.03 on my game PC, 1.04 on the other - will upgrade and see if this is sorted out. Either way, thanks for your help.

RE: Question on New TOE Creation

<t> Thanks. This is presumably what I did - but I now have no 'COPY' option visible/available. <br/> <br/> Interestingly, just checked the version I have on my portable and this does have the copy button in all its glory. Guess I know which PC I'll be using to do this. Does open the question of why ...

Question on New TOE Creation

<t> I clearly knew how to do this in the past as I have a few added TOEs at the bottom of the already substantial list in the TOE @ Generic Files. There is no copy button for TOEs (unlike other tabs which are either copy/paste or copy (and it is really annoying (mea culpa) when I try copy/paste on a...

RE: Hans Rudel Challenge

<t> None of the vanilla ground attack weapons have adequate accuracy and, to a lesser extent, 'damage power' for your entire airfleet of Stukas to reach what Rudel achieved himself. So yesterday I went into the device editor and tweaked (Not. Applied large multipliers in a couple of cases) the weapo...

RE: 43 GC Soviet side

<t> The difference with the Soviets in '41 is that you know if you do hang on, better days are coming. For the Germans in '43, if you manage to hang on, well, it is just going to get worse. But yes, the SU in '41 is more (short term) hopeless than the Germans in '43, who actually have a bunch of goo...

RE: Uses for Poor Planets

<t> Poor systems are good for two things: a colony to expand the explorable borders of the empire when there is no other option and, for ideal and, to a lesser extent, habitable systems, breeding grounds to accelerate the growth of valuable systems. And yes, I put a full complement of research cente...

RE: 43 GC Soviet side

<t> Oleg, sort of crocodile tears on the mud; delta (in thousands for men, art, afvs, aircraft, turns 15-22): German: +18, -1, +1.3, +0.3; SU: +380, +5.8, +1.7, +1.1. Except for AFVs, the Germans are barely treading water while the SU is going from strength to strength. Sure mud sucks for the attack...

RE: 43 GC Soviet side

<t> Oleg, I think you significantly underrate the difficulties the Germans face in the '43 scenario. Admittedly I have only played against the AI, but I do so with the difficulty levers heavily slanted in favour of the SU (110 across the board; Axis 90-100). First, the Germans have absolutely no cha...

Thank you; that is complete clarification. Sadly, I very seldom have the money to build things/ships one at a time. Can see it being useful with shipyards late in the game.

Production Question

<t> I am going to be honest here, the whole production thing is pretty mysterious to me so my two questions:<br/> <br/> - does more than one production/industry unit on a planet actually improve the production rate?<br/> <br/> - does more than one shipyard increase the rate of ship production?<br/> ...

Good link, some interesting comments. For me, Armada is the somewhat the better game probably mainly because I am a TB, not a RT guy at heart. Only just started playing Supernova but the improvements look like they really are (improvements).

RE: December in Europe - Snow or Blizzard?

<t> Those co-ordinates - the 54/72 line - defines a relatively benign climate zone for the first winter; east/north of that means winter is blizzards. There are snow turns in December reflecting the weather for that last German push at Moscow. And yes, for snow turns, blizzard rules do not apply and...
