RE: New v4.2.248 Public Beta Update Now Available!

<t> Oh, I didn't realize we could still recommend changes, I was waiting until after the patch was released before I proposed any changes. I guess I'll get my list together and see if I can get them in on <br/>
this patch release then. I asked a legitimate question and if all I get in response is ...

RE: New v4.2.248 Public Beta Update Now Available!

Well that's Fantastic and I'm sure the software development community, world wide, is going to be aghast to find out they've been doing it wrong all these years.

RE: New v4.2.248 Public Beta Update Now Available!

<t> It seems a little odd that we wait weeks and weeks for the new patch to be released, then just before it's<br/>
"supposed" to come out we find ourselves in the Beta testing phase. It would seem that the cart is way ahead of<br/>
the horse here. What happens next, we regress to a re-release of ...

RE: Thoughts on Arty control

<t> It doesn't seem to take any longer when I issue a bombardment order directly to a headquarters unit, but then I've never really tried to time the difference either.[:)]<br/>
What concerns me most is pouring that much artillery on to one set of coordinates, so I tend to hold it in reserve for ...

RE: Thoughts on Arty control

<t> I've never tried to myself, but with the orders delay you may not be able to. You could try "re-attaching" the headquarters unit you issued the bombardment order to and see if that has any effect. I found the default bombardment period to be 11 minutes long <br/>
and usually the orders delay is ...

RE: Thoughts on Arty control

<t> It's not something you want to use a lot, because it can be pretty wasteful of Arty Ammo, but if you come across a high concentration of enemy units<br/>
in a small area it can be effective -- especially if it's not easy for them to disperse, like when you're holding one side of a bridge and ...

RE: Thoughts on Arty control

<t> Here's something I like to do on occasion: Give an Artillery order directly to a Divisional, or Regimental Headquarters, then all the artillery that is <br/>
available under that particular headquarters will be concentrated on the specified target. It can be pretty devastating. Then re-attach ...

RE: bypassing defending units

<t> The answer is: I rarely move both platoons at the same time. I do everything I can to prevent a unit from getting into a cross-fire situation, so when "A" platoon is on the move, "B" platoon is in support and the<br/>
immediate goal of "A" platoon is to get into a position to support a move by ...

RE: bypassing defending units

<r> Personally, I'm looking for a squad level simulation not as a replacement for BFTB, but more as a complementary system of play. Although there are a lot of similarities in the <br/>
tactics employed, the differences in scale, with respect to both area and time, makes for two different games to ...

<t> Ahh great, now I have to go over that list again.<br/>

RE: bypassing defending units

<t> Basically, I found that if the defending unit can get a shot off at your units, then it's (your unit) going to stop and take cover, or stop and return fire, or stop and then attack,<br/>
but the "STOP" part seems inevitable unless you can prevent the defender from firing on your units. To ...

RE: Bypass surgery for my Greyhound!

I also made the the late discovery that two reinforcement AA companies are packing some 88's. I didn't get to fully exploit their potential this time round, but you can bet your sweet a$$ they'll
be put to better use the next time -- "Hey Sherman, come take a look at this"[:D]

RE: Bypass surgery for my Greyhound!

<t> Been there, done that, got a T-shirt; even tried it with two battalions assaulting and still won't work. What will let<br/>
me spring my Panzer V's loose, is a 30 min barrage to the north of the dreaded Super base, but not on it so it can't <br/>
retreat in that direction, then have the ...

RE: Bypass surgery for my Greyhound!

<t> Thanks Deathtreader and GoodGuy:<br/>
I've had some limited success using your suggestions (sometimes: I can't even get repeatable results), but never completely. I guess it depends on the <br/>
AI's mood. What would work well, would be the option to disconnect the AI for a set of orders so ...

Which Close Combat to start with?

<t> Howdy Folks:<br/>
I've been hunting around for a "Squad Level" tactical simulation and from everything I've looked at (and I've looked at a<br/>
lot of them), the "Close Combat" series would seem to be the best fit for what I'm interested in. The problem I'm having<br/>
is deciding which of ...

Bypass surgery for my Greyhound!

<r> Howdy Folks:<br/>
I'm trying to play the German side of Greyhound Dash and to start I want to establish a defensible front between "Hutton" and "Fisenne."<br/>
To have any hope of doing this, my units starting near "Samree" have to make a mad dash for the front and <B><s>[b]</s>waste ...
