<t>Cross of Iron, by Willi Heinrich (as many others have suggested) is fantastic. The prose is spare, and having the story being told from constantly changing viewpoints adds to the tension of the story. It is interesting to compare the book to the (wonderful) movie that it inspired.<br/>

<t>Never got to play much ASL, but I still play the original SL games quite a bit; a couple have already been converted, and I think with the new smaller maps, I might try my hand at one or two when 3.0 becomes available, time permitting. Anyway, my favorites are:<br/>

Or maybe...there could be a skill check made by non-phasing units that have received supression as a result of fire on the part of the phasing player's units...might add an interesting variable to a firefight.

I think the old Squad Leader convention was to have reverse movement cost 4x normal.

<t>You know, I think you might have something there!<br/>

Maybe make the chance of your A0 taking over for an out of command squad dependent upon a skill check for the A0 leader? It would certainly add a little special something to the game ("The battle looked like a lost cause until Col ...

<t>I think this gets into some grey areas with regard to the old game vs. simulation debate. The command system, as it stands now, is designed to encourage players to keep their platoon formations together. If stray units were allowed to receive commands from a non-parent HQ, your incentive for ...

<t>> I've noticed that some "0" level units have command ratings less than some of their subordinates and this really doesn't make any sense. <br/>

Why not? In the US Army, f'rinstance, a platoon lieutenant was likely a "90-day wonder," fresh from training with little or no experience, while ...

Winter Terrain and some other stuff

<t>Hi, all...<br/>
<br/>
I have to redo a small map I've made using the summer pallette because I remembered the scenario I was designing took place in winter (d'oh!). Anyway, I remember that the high grass tile used to be a sort of "snow drift" with a height level of one. Now, when using the winter ...

And there is also the fact that striking armor plate at a less than optimum angle will diffuse the effect of the hit and increse the chance for ricochet, I think. Was this taken into account?

<t>This is my first post, so I'll start off by commending you guys on a fantastic job. The new terrain types alone add a lot to gameplay, but the armored combat system: WOW! Not only does the new damage system add realism, but it adds to the game's immersive quality, as well; little details like the ...
