Re: What`s next from Gary Grigsby ?

We all want the Holy Grail. Division level War in Europe 1939-45. So many have tried. Some have come awfully close. War In Europe (SPI - 1976) was the first to do it, but with generic units. The Europa series (GDW - 1980's) created all the pieces necessary but didn't assemble them together (although ...

Re: ideas for rtw4 or for mods

I think the next logical step would be to introduce player initiated operational level missions. Right now the player can move (or keep) his ships into an area and if something happens, it happens. Many players complain that much time can pass and nothing happens. By giving the player an additional ...

I like the new look. But I do wish there was an option to use the 'Bold' version of the font.

Interface question

Previously, I had the keyboard setup so that the Space bar advanced time in the combat mode by 1 turn. Now after upgrading the version to 1.00.36, that seems to be lost. Anyone know how to set the Space bar to advance one turn again?

One question for you: is there space in the SCIII map size limits for a few extra rows of hexes, using your base map? The Europa maps include the northern Finnish ...

RE: Map of Europe 20kms/hex

<t> Sipres: The map looks nice. I started a map set to 16 miles/hex with the idea that is could be used with the GDW/GRD Europa OOB, but became totally demoralized once the task of making the coastlines presented itself. 12.5 miles per hex (20km/hex) might be a good substitute since one must deal ...

RE: Moving Units from Poland to France... death march?

<t> Historically the Germans used rail extensively to move units between fronts. For the mech/motorized units even much shorter distances were covered on rail to reduce wear and tear on the machines. It's really only in the summer of '44 with the collapse of the rail system in France that German ...

And that is actually an increase of total hexes of about 3.5. Much better than mere doubling. Theoretically speaking it seems like the game is more than capable of handling a conversion of a certain ...

Map size

Dev team, what is the maximium size of the map in hexes horizontal by hexes vertical? In 1920 x 1200 resolution, if that makes a difference.

<t> Personally, I think Minor units should get the production discounts, but they should only be able to be built at one tech level below the German max. Obviously they shouldn't be able to be promoted in the field to the German max either.<br/>

RE: Balance Issue

<t> Land combat right now in SC3 is attritional in nature. Kill off enemy units until they cant defend everything and then advance. The sort of deep penetration breakthrough/exploitation attacks are rare. As the OP pointed out, the defensive/blocking capability of a single full strength infantry ...

<t> So then why is it modeled as a marginal expense when you transport units? You can't have it both ways. Right now, you incur no costs to maintain that infrastructure. Frankly, the strategic transportation costs are way out of whack with the cost of the units themselves. And the argument that one ...

<t> IRL, once Italy signed an armistice with the Allies, the Germans immediately disarmed all Italian troops on the Eastern Front. So in game terms, they did disappear. <br/>

Don't forget to bombard the pocketed units with your tactical bombers, this really makes a difference. As I see it, if a enemy unit gets bombarded before your own ground units attack it, it takes way more damage than without air-attack. Same ...

I play at 2560x1600 on Win 10. Video card is GTX 970. I get the same errors. Sometimes immediately upon loading a saved game file. Sometimes after 5 minutes. Sometimes after 30 minutes.

I was using the autorun.exe. I tried by directly using the tof.exe file, and I see that V1.05 is shown when the game is started that way. Is that the preferred way of starting the game?

I too am still seeing the version as 1.04 after installing the patch. I extracted the .rar file into an empty directory and then copied all the contents over into my ToF directory. The .exe file does correctly display (in Windows file directory) as last being modified on 2/22/2014.

<t> I'm curious about whether the game engine can go in the other direction - i.e. larger maps. I've seen all those South American countries in the game database, and my mind wanders and thinks about the campaigns in Ethiopia and beyond. Or does the current map scale max out the game engine at this ...
