Casual WW2

Post by 72M »

Hallo all, I'm new. I'd like to ask what game would fit me best.
I'm looking for a beer and pretzels kind of not too heavy WW2 whole war (or at least europe and north africa) game, something akin to Clash of Iron of old, that I don't need to read 100 pages of manuals to understand. I'd prefer a hexbased game for breakthru, blitz, out of supply and such thing still, over a area based game like axis and allies. (I know Grigsby made a great one of that sort).
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, -M

ps. Something in the Advanced Third Reich board game style would be nice...add in Rising Sun, or global and I'll be jumping up and down for a while. But It should have decent AI

This game fits your conditions: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=453

I think Gary Grisby's A World Divided is the best beer and pretzel game now cause it is basically an upgraded Axis & Allies board game which was the classic pretzel game of all time. You could even try Steel Panthers and do the custom campaigns.

I'd say this one; WW2 Time of Wrath: tt.asp?forumid=693

This one is in Europe, they now have a new game which covers the Pacific.
The best way to get an idea is to read the After Action Reports ofcourse.

Go for the real gusto, Strategic Command Global, with the Nupremal world mod. Or if you prefer pzgndr's recreation of Advanced Third Reich.

There is an extended modding community for SC, both for AI play and Human competition. Its been in production for years, since 2002, tweaked, modified, and close to perfection, no CTDs, no game killing anomalies, just pure playing fun with chips and salsa and your favorite margarita.

One stop shopping.

Thanks to all for suggestions. I have GG's World at war already. :) I was looking for some hexbased similar games. I will take a good look at all the suggestions. Thanks! :)
